I've been around guns most of my life. Not proclaiming to be an expert by any means, but I typically own and have owned nice firearms.

Never having owned a Coach Gun, I looked around and realized Rossi was no longer making their Coach Gun anymore, and used ones were few and far between. So, I found a company called Cimarron, out of Texas who has coach guns and most everything I read about them were quality shotguns.

Here's the problem. I went ahead and bought one with external hammers and low and behold I find out it was made in China. :uhoh: :banghead:

I feel like a jerk. Anyway, are there any Cimarron Coach Gun owners in here that can tell me if they are good or bad guns? I've not shot mine yet. However, the fit and finish looks very nice. But, will they hold up??

Thanks!

I believe Cimarron is the new importer for the guns that used to be marketed as TTNs. They're clones of the Colt 1878, and are about as solid as a main battle tank. They've taken the segment of Cowboy Action Shooting which uses hammered guns by storm.

China, Italy, Turkey....not USA for the most part. Still a lot of old solid doubles out there for less than new imports if you look hard enough. H&D Folsom, Crescent Arms, and a couple others made some that are still useable. Watch out for twist steel or "laminate" barrels, though.
I use two, both from American Gun Co., one at 20" and the other 28" for black powder trap and skeet. Old Stevens 5100 and 311s are out there also, just climbing in price for no good reason.

Why?

Cimarron actually went over to China to improve the fit and finish on those several years back and they lightened the trigger springs too. Weighs more than most coaches so it helps absorb recoil also. I've got a couple Chinese shotguns and they are built like tanks.

Sign of the times and inevitable... in most cases it's just too expensive to manufacture in the USA. We buyers will nearly always opt for a decent product at a lower price. If we don't like nearly all manufacturing going overseas then we can only blame ourselves.

The above stated, I've owned several firearms made in Turkey, China and the Ukraine. The ones I had were all quite good and would have cost 3x as much if made in the USA.

It helps to look at this in cold objective way. Pretty much everything you wear is made in China. If you keep buying their stuff they will not nuke you nor bankrupt your country. They own USA you know.
