I live in NJ, and I want to get a NH Noresident Pistol / Revolver license.

I put "Protection and All Proper Purposes" as my reason, and I have enough references. The thing I'm concerned about is the field on the form that asks for your home-state permit number. I have a Florida Nonresident concealed weapon or firearm permit, but I live in NJ and it's not really possible to get a permit in this state. The form instructions say that they'll accept a nonresident permit from another state. Should I just leave the "home state" field blank and enclose a photocopy of my florida permit?

Umm, what choice do you have? You do not have a CCW from your home state, which may as well be 'Won't Issue'. =)

Put in Florida as per the instructions say it is okay to do so. Worst case they give you a call. You are not doing anything wrong or illegal, and should not have to tip-toe/worry about being contacted should they choose to do so (probably won't).

Turn around time for non-res NH for me was ~3 weeks (leaning on the more side), and that was with a PA Res permit.

Cheers.

NH is nice people. they will probably give you the permit just to spite the NJ goverment ;)

I'm just concerned that they'll reject my application for leaving that field blank, despite having included the photocopy as per the instructions. I need to be absolutely sure that having a nonresident from another state is acceptable here.

In NJ, it's not uncommon to see firearm applications rejected and the applicant charged with a crime for accidentally getting their address one digit wrong. So I'm hoping you'll understand my concern, given that NJ is what I am used to.

NH will accept any carry permit from any state for their Non resident permit. This changed just with in the last couple of years. We don't change our forms much. That cost's money.

Okay, so should I leave that field blank and hope they're smart enough to deduce that yes, my Florida Permit is valid? Or simply put the florida permit number in there and put "(Florida)" next to it?

EDIT:

Nevermind. I just talked to a Trooper from the permit unit. I crossed out "home state" and put "Florida" with the permit number. Nice and neat.

Great info! I knew NH recently made a change benefiting people like me who live in an non-CCW state (like NJ). Looking to do the same as Raven using the FL permit for the NH non-res.

Actually just got back from NH yesterday. Took a trip up Mt. Washington for the first time.

Beautiful place.

The text of the app instructions read as follows (for those considering it): A non-resident pistol permit will not be issued unless you supply: 1) A copy (front and back) of your valid concealed carry permit issued by the state, county or town in which you reside, or a valid concealed permit issued by any other state.

So yeah, any nonres permit is fair game now.

NH is great about issuing permits. I just got mine renewed, and turnaround time was less than 2 weeks. I've waited longer than that for a renewal in my home state of Maine.

Submitted it six days ago. Had it back today.

They really have their s@%t together up there.
