I have an older Mossberg 500 in Twenty gauge with the C-Lect Choke.
I want to send it to Mossberg in Eagle Pass, Texas.
I would like to pay Mossberg to take a look at the gun and see what they think.

It means a lot to me as the gun is from back in the day. Lots of memories...

Has anyone ever sent these folks anything? Any advice or caveats I should know about?

I do not mind spending a little money to bring it up to today's standards.

If any of you folks have a spare moment will you share your opinions and experience with me?

New guy with old shotgun:)

What do you want them to do? Refinish it? Tell you it is safe to shoot? What? There is nothing you need to change to "bring it up to today's standards." The pressure standard for ammunition has not changed.

Old New Haven Mossberg

Hello!

Thx 4 your email!
It is pretty old. I would like 4 them to give it "the Glock Treatment."
Shorter barrel, metal trigger group, extended magazine, Internal choke on new barrel, Improved sights, recoil pad, clean and adjust as necessary, replace what needs to be replaced really.

Have you any experiences with Eagle Pass Facility?

Thanks again!!

Mossberg doesn't have any kind of custom shop, and that gun is far past any warranty. They would likely sell you a new barrel for around $200. The buttstock with recoil pad is still available from the factory, the forearm is not. There are no extended magazine tubes for the 20ga either. If it is a single action bar gun, many internal parts are discontinued as well.
There is absolutely no reason the send it to the factory. The gun has little monetary value, and will have even less if modified. I would personally enjoy the gun as is, or invest your money in something that meets your perceived needs.

Keep it or sell it as is and buy a newer one with the features you want. It will cost you way more to pay for the mods you want than just buying a newer one. As mentioned there is no specialty shop at Eagle Pass. They would only do warranty repairs.

Good Evening,

I sent my Mossberg 500 to the Eagle Pass facility this summer for warranty work. It came back extremely quickly and fixed properly. Can't really ask for anything more than that.

Having said that I don't think your plan is the best way to proceed. You can talk to a local gunsmith if you want professional reassurance. If you want to do it yourself, barrels are widely available in all kinds of configurations as are the internal parts.

The receiver doesn't take any of the pressure on firing. The bolt locks into the back part of the barrel. So if you have a new barrel and bolt you have "factory fresh" strength if that is your concern.

Good Luck

Dan

There is no "Glock Treatment" for a Mossberg. iirc they will refinish barrels if you send it in to them. Mossberg does not have a lifetime warranty on the guns. They are basic simple shotguns and as long as the mechanism is kept reasonably clean and lubricated they last almost forever if not abused.

It's worth maybe $100-$150 as a used gun. Maybe a bit more if it is immaculate and has two action bars. New these guns are less than $300.

If you want the C-Lect choke removed there are many gunsmiths who can cut the barrel down and install a new bead sight. Or you can look on eBay or Gunbroker for a good used barrel and keep the C-Lect choke barrel.
