New HG suggestions for wife

XD compact is nice and comes with 13 and 16 rd mags I believe. I have the xde hammer fired which I carry much of the time but only holds 8,9. Your looking for more rds.

All manuals are full of CYA statements, that's nothing new. But the point of the story was that FN allegedly used the referenced clause in order to deny the warranty work.
That is in fact the reason for me posting it.

I don't know if there is anything wrong with the FNS or any of the FN pistols, they all may be perfectly fine firearms. However, my guess is practically nobody has their handgun inspected by a gunsmith or the factory every 2,000 rounds, and practically nobody would think to do it without having read a warning buried deep on page #38 of the owners manual, that most folks won't even open let alone read thoroughly. The point is, if you don't do that, FN is not willing support a claim for warrantee work. Forewarned is forearmed.

I find that stance from FN very disturbing and it makes me Leary about owning an FN pistol in the future. I also had one in the past and it did not function properly.

Don't give up on a gun without an ambi or swap-able mag release until she tries pressing the button with the left hand trigger finger -- on many guns it works better for me than an ambi one. I practice quite a lot left handed, I've considered swapping some guns with swap-able releases to be used like this right handed but decided its best to not have some non-standard gun configurations.

Of the few recommendations for SA XDm allow me to say I won an XDm (4.5) in 9mm so I have zero dollars invested in it. I think the grips/grip angle are better suited for an individual with smaller hands than say a Glock 17. The negative with the XDm is the factory trigger is a horror. Not that the Glock triggers are perfect without fooling around with them but the SA needs prompt attention as far as I'm concerned.

Personally I don't care what guns people like or buy or shoot or anything but I find the comment that FNs can (to paraphrase) run circles around Sigs and Glocks... humorous. Too many variables at a $500-600 price point in addition to human ability and effort. I will say this, go to a bunch of formal or informal IDPA or action style matches (if that is part of the goal) and count the # of FNs being used.

Another of my opinions, at the price point being considered hard to make a really bad choice comparatively speaking as long as you select based on intended use not settle for an all around multi-purpose do all things handgun. Define what you want then take the little lady out and let her make the final selection.

That was just a friendly barb aimed at the G/S snobbery on almost every line I shoot. At that particular qualification, that included all of the other 11 shooters who gave me no end of grief about my silly FN. This course was geared towards rural/industrial scenarios and precise fire around things that don't mix with bullets and involved longer than usual distances vs most defensive handgun courses, 10-50 yards. This is where the FN shines in my experience (could also be the fact that I practice frequently at distance as I find it fun). Of the automatics I've fired, including Glocks and Sigs, the only other stock combat/service handgun that ever equaled it for precision was an Argentine contract FM 90 Hi-Power clone. I'll have to put it in the wife's hands again and see if she has a better opinion of it this time. She wasn't used to a double action striker pull the first time she tried it and found it "funny." She's since had more practice with that sort of handgun. It does fit her hands, maybe she's just fussy

Might also want to check out the CZ P07. I believe the mag release can be switched for left handed shooters and the decocker/thumb safety are both ambidextrous. Very comfortable grip design (perfect for those with small to medium size hands), along with a decent DA/SA trigger. Comes with two 15 round mags and is the right size (not too big and not too small), for CCW , home defense, or just to take to the range.

There are several great suggestions in this thread... and it sounds like your wife can make her own decisions on a handgun. Is there a range with a lot of rental weapons to try out nearby?

For the longest time, my wife's favorite range gun was a Witness PS in 9mm. She has shot several thousand rounds in that gun. Her favorites right now are a Ruger SR22 and a CZ97. She also has a Witness compact (not the Pavona, but similar) that she purse carries. We have a total of 6 Witness pistols in 9, 40, 45, and 10mm.

Both the Witness 9mm and the CZ97 were guns that she picked out and bought herself. Don't try to push a gun on anybody because it is a gun YOU like, but this seems to be especially true with women.

Dunno, I like the trigger on my XDm. I do not compete with it, however. Maybe it unravels on timer. But it's fine for slow fire on paper targets.

Well we got a chance to rent a few guns on vacation in Yuma AZ. She got to try out an FNX, a Sig P226 and a very expensive M1911 in .45 and a Walther mid-size I don't remember the model as we both hated it. Of those, the P-226 was her favorite. It is a bit big and heavy for the intended purpose, but she really liked it. REALLY! Anybody know a good source for second-hand ones? Still want to try out the CZ P-07 and a Witness/CZ 75 variant. She's handled both of these and likes them. As an added bonus, my MIL, who is not very gun savvy, went with and decided of her own accord to purchase a SW Shield EZ .380 to carry while horseback riding in the desert and joined the local Well Armed Women chapter on the spot!

Would a P229 work? IIRC, It's a P226 with a barrel that's about a half an inch shorter. There were a bunch of police trade-in P226's available recently. Mine was a little less than $300 OTD, IIRC. It has a lot of holster wear but hadn't actually been shot much. The trigger is heavenly.
