Direct from the FAQ:

Is Bobcat Weapons Inc. owned by Special Weapons or Tactical Weapons?

No. Bobcat Weapons is a separate corporation. Ownership of Special Weapons Inc. or Tactical Weapons Inc. has no ownership in Bobcat Weapons Inc. Bobcat Weapons Inc. is unafillitated with any other manufacturer of similar type firearms.

Looks like a nice MP5 clone. Certainly much cheaper than the real deal. If only I had a whole pile of extra cash laying around.....

Well, all I can say is that I spoke with one of the Special Weapons people at SHOT (we were waiting for the same bus) and they said Bobcat was handling their buisness now. I could be completely wrong, but the guy I spoke with had a Special Weapons nametag (IIRC, his name was Todd).

Hmm, Todd...where have I heard that name...

Anway, the wording of the "unaffiliated with" disclaimer is exactly what they sent me when I asked why I couldn't order some accessory from them and the TWTA distributor. Noting they had the same address and phone numbers 2 digits off didn't help.

Oh, fine. I am tired of being nice. First, see the recent other SW discussion here. Bobcats are one of the brands I was asking about when I wondered if all the other MP clones were just SWs rebranded.

Here's my favorite example of SW not living in our reality. I got the gun up to speed, then borrowed some gear from my HK friend. A Swan claw mount (sold by HK) and a screw-down Armson mount (from an OEG originally) would NOT go on. The receiver lugs were far out of spec. My emails to them went back and forth a few times, but here's their first response:
the arms mounts were being made out of spec for over 10 years they are now being made to the correct german spec you can send it in and we can look at it, most likey you just need to modify the mount to the german specs.

the distance between the closed lugs of the mount are 1mm to close according to the german spec, our guns are tight on the german spec so this condition will be tight or no go on an out of spec arms mount

Yup, its everyone else's fault. ARMS/Swan, Armson, and everyone else making issue-grade gear, wrong. We are right.

What-ever.

Words of wisdom, "beware of Toad"....

So many name changes of the company itself over the years that it will make your head spin.

People got wise to that ploy so then it was the distributor approach, probably a way to take advantage of good folks who mean well but don't know better than to NOT DEAL WITH TOAD!

Give it a few months, the new source for the Spechul Wheapons guns will dry up and then Toady will state in his forums that they are stopping production forever only to come back 3-4 months later with some new half assed project to be brought to us by some great new company.

You know, I wouldn't even mind the guns being a bit tricky to get running, if they would admit that. Its the business practices that really rub me wrong.

So silly, in this sort of a world. We all talk amongst ourselves about such things, and have a visceral reaction to our weapons. He'd be so much better off being honest. Jeesh.
