this winter to pass the time i made a lot of mountain man and indian jewlery to were when i shoot my muzzleloaders in the summer. i cut a lot of things out of real bone blanks to hang on the end of them. crosses, spear heads and arrow heads. i havent been to the big town for quite awhile as it is 135 miles away and im veryvery remote here in the west, so i did what was said above as i was out of leather dye locally. i soaked the bone things i made in blak tea. got good results but not as good as leather dye. i like the exchange of info we are having here as this is what this good site is about. thanks for bringing up the tea thing. ive even tried hair dye as i like buffalo bill type mustache and chin wiskers stand out a little at my old age. it worked on walnut for me on a colt uberti grips darkened them up some and brought out the grain more.. if one could still get chromium trioxide that is the best of the best. dixie gun works sold it years ago but i dont think they do anymore. its poisionous. it was the best of the best for a dye as it would bring the grain out of anything.
