I would like to take this time to apologies to all of you that I have doubted.

I always thought IWB holsters would look like a growth on your side. Boy was I wrong, stupid me was putting the gun in the wrong place..I read somewhere, maybe here that if you were interested in an IWB that before you buy, take your gun(unloaded)and put it in your pants where the holster would be and see if its do-able.

I thought this was a good Ideal, so I took my G36 and put it in my pants behide my belt where the label is on your Levis.

That was two days ago, I don't even know its there. This is more comferable then anything else I have tried.

Now the question is which IWB do I get, and are the straps better then the plastic snaps..One thing is for sure, I only want leather.

Any and all advice will be considered.... Thank you

There's an Ugly, Bald Guy who makes some pretty good leather goods. I've got two of his holsters and like them very much. He'll work with you, and his prices are very reasonable.

Oh, and I prefer leather loops over the clips. They just seem more secure to me. YMMV and all.

I've been an advocate of IWB carry for a long, long time. As you suggest it may take some experimentation to get it right but it is worth it. As far as a holster is concerned the one in the pic is, IMHO, ideal

The "wings" will tend to spread the weight of the gun and make carry easier. Of course, a really good gun belt is also mandatory and will spread out the weight of the gun even better.

I chose this particular holster with clips because the clips make for a secure carry but allow the holster to be put on and removed with somewhat more ease than other styles. FWIW.

IWB is the only way I've found that I can carry. It sure does take a lot of experimenting to find the right spot, cant, depth and even the right gun for the spot though. At least it did for my odd body shape. UBG does make some great holsters. He's a bersatalk member who got started making holsters for members there. His leather crafting is very high quality and he'll make you exactly what you want. Good luck, and I'm glad you found a way to carry comfortably.

Loucks, thanks for that link. That is one sharp looking IWB he puts out. Sent an email to him for current turn-around time. Not sure if I'll go with loops or clips, but I'll see what he recommends for my build (tall, toothpick :D )and go from there.

...

Less is more IMO, and for 15 bucks, Uncle Mikes IWB #15 is the best.

Let me explain my reasoning:

As you said, putting your gun, only, anywhere and finding the best location/s is a truth to; SOB is right, side/hip is right, front left or right, is right, and in any pocket is right. All inside, and I can move gun and holster from one spot, to another in less than 10 sec's with a simple lift of the holster's clip which never fails to hold, anywhere.

I can tell you for a fact, that with this very simple, least amount of width, bar none, and it holds like a glove yet, you can draw-out as fast as you can.

And, when I'm out and about, walking, and bending over a lot, I put it in the SOB. When I have to drive, it goes just behind my right hip, FBI cant. When I'm in a crowd, 2 things I want to avoid by putting it in the front, are the pickpocket, and it paints 0 if I have to bend down slightly.

And sometimes, when I just have to go outside, for this or that, I can, and do just put it in any pocket of my desire.

No safety strap needed, ever, as I said, it holds like a glove, yet I can draw-out as fast as Doc Holliday, every time, anywhere I put it with "either" my Beretta Px4 40cal, or my Sig P229 CT9mm.. ask Johny Ringo. ;)

You may get what you pay for, and then again, you may not, but that is the best 15 bucks I have ever invested in a holster for my 2, different size, guns, bar-none, that fits "all" the needs I mentioned above, speaking for myself.

Oh, and when my friends say something to the effect, you've got to be kidding, it seems so simple looking, and I say exactly, no one sees it anyway, but I do feel it and the gun, and it feels like a part of me.

Uncle Mike, you owe me one.. lol

PS.. no break-in period, at all, any gun.

PSS.. to get an idea of what I talking about (versatility) but you want, or need, to spend some money and buy some looks and style, take a look here:

Lonestar, thanks for the imput, but as I stated above,I do not like nor do I want anything made of plastic..Leather holsters only.. But thanks anyway

Lonestar49, ever taken a 1000 round class with a $15 Uncle Mike's holster? A good belt and a good holster both cost money, and are considered pretty much essential for guys who carry for any length of time. For folks who carry all day long, every day, its more than a luxury. Its the only way we can do it in comfort and securely.

BOOM, I have used IWB holsters in the past, but not any longer. Milt Sparks is kinda considered the standard. Allessi makes very nice leather, too. More economical are Galco, Desantis. Start there . . . and look around here. You'll find something.

If you sweat at all, you may want to rethink this.

Leather gets wet, and stays wet, and so does the gun thats in it. Wet leather is also very irritating against your skin should your tee shirt ride up, or you dont wear one.

Any reason your so fixated on leather? Kydex is actually easier on your gun, and the holsters last forever.

Milt Sparks makes 2 leather holsters that have sweat shields inserted between two thin pieces of leather that protect the gun.

ak103k, Yes I like leather because it molds to your body Kydex doesn't..

bullfrogken, just curious, why did you stop using IWB....

Extended periods of daily carry became uncomfortable (+12 hrs), even with the thin frame and slide of the 1911, at the end of a long day.

Later an acquired health condition made it intolerable.

Yep, we actually deal with the "Ugly Bald Guy" in the shop I work in. His stuff seems to be well made, and incredibly priced. He lives here nearby.

I'm a huge fan of HBE Leatherworks holsters. Eric is also local (for me).

IWB is by far my favorite method of carry. More secure, more comfy, and more well-hidden than any other modes, IMO.

I've used Blade Tech kydex holsters pretty much daily for over ten years now. I also have and use a Sparks VMII.

Comfort is basically the same, but I find the kydex to be more comfortable in the summer. I also dont have to worry about rusty guns.

Leather only "molds" so far, and really not all that much. Kydex doesnt need to, nor does it change over the life of the holster. It also requires no "break in" and doesnt "creak". It also has a faster, smoother draw, and most are usually tension adjustable.

Before you condemn one or the other, I'd suggest picking up one of each from a good maker and give them both a good try. The difference between them may surprise you.

I agree with Ken, skip the cheap stuff and buy quality.

Not Plastic, Not really cheap

...

BB, copy tht, but it's not made of plastic FTR, more like a well polished wet suit material, but the clip is flexible plastic, but that doesn't get any stress on it, 3 months use, aprox 12hrs each day, 5-7 days a week. No wear or tear, nor markings on any of my guns..

No problem, the right leather works, as I listed that Sig site, and the pics of a very nice, versatile IWB leather holster, and the site of the maker of it.

Good luck,

LS

Does 2 full day classes 9am - 5pm 400 rounds per day count with an Uncle Mikes, OWB #15 clip on, with mag holder, for both guns, same holster, with thumb strap count? (not the IWB I mentioned above)

If yes, then I can speak for comfort, reliability, and it stays where I put it, under all movements required for those 2 days. It cost alittle more, IIRC, around 18 -24 bucks. And money is not an issue with me, not at all. But it never got marked up nor dryed out at that outdoor dirt range.

LS

No, not exactly. You carry it inside-the-waistband, or as you described it, slipped inside your pocket. Why did you run through the class with it outside-the-waistband?

...

Not the same holster.. One is an IWB for CCW, the 15 dollar comfy one first described, that I can move IWB anywhere, as mentioned, for private civi use, which I also use a clip on mag leather-holder, which did cost around 42 dollars each, one for the 40cal mag, and the other for my 9mm mag, IIRC.

My other Uncle Mikes holster is an OWB, only (metal clip-on) was for training, which a "thumbstrap" was required for that 2-day course which the/my IWB holster does not have.

Ah, I see where you got confused, as either holsters mentioned, IWB, or the OWB, can be used for my 40cal or 9mm.

Kinda nice, 2 guns, slighty different in size, one holster works for both guns, using either the OWB holster, or the IWB holster, which is comfy, doesnt get hot, nor cold, and any sweet, which I do little of, wouldn't phase it.

Both are IIRC, Uncle Mikes #15's

I find IWB comfortable (unless driving) with a good holster and belt and worn behind my hip so it presses into a more "fleshy" part of my body. Occasionally I've had to pretend to scratch an itch because I no longer feel it. ;) I feel it provides better concealment under a greater variety of conditions, for me. There is an abundance of custom and "off-the-rack" makers as well as designs.

A Glock next to your twig and berries is some scary stuff. I know trust me.
G23 at the 1:00 o'clock position.
It might as well be invisable. If anyone so much as gets the tiniest imprint the worst thats gonna happen is I might get a chicks phone number. Or worst case senario and I my self am turned into a girl.

I carry a G27 daily with a Milt Sparks VM2 and a Wilderness Instructor belt.(well almost daily sometimes I carry something else)
Don't forget a good carry belt it makes a big difference in comfort.
