Hello, I'm a new gun owner and live in New Jersey. I believe firmly in the second amendment, I occasionally come to this site to keep up on any news happening nationally related to this. Right now I'm kind of confused and frustrated. I was looking at purchasing ammunition from an online retailer to try and save money, and of course the ease of having it delivered. However, I noticed that some websites will not sell ammunition to New Jersey, while others will. I checked around a little online into New Jersey law and found out that there is a law that makes it illegal to purchase handgun ammunition without first showing your firearm id card. From what I understand this makes the purchase of handgun ammunition online illegal, but what about rifle ammunition such as 7.62x39? I called the New Jersey state police firearms department who verified that I can't buy handgun ammunition online, but when I asked them if i could purchase rifle ammunition, as it is not stated anywhere in the law, he told me that he honestly didn't know.
Is there anyone from New Jersey that buys their ammunition online? I'm not exactly sure where to find out if this is legal or not, I really thought the state police would know. Also aren't there many rifles that can fire handgun ammunition, like 9mm and 22r?
