Hello all.

When I finally got my concealed carry permit a few months back, I decided to get a nice holster for my Glock 30.... I ended up getting a Milt Sparks Versa Maxx II in black horsehide, and while it is a really nice well built piece (and super at making the Glock 30 disappear on your hip) It is just plain uncomfortable... I figured it might just take a little time to get used to it, but even after trying a size bigger pants, it still was just too uncomfortable for all day carry... I have come to the conclusion that a fully loaded Glock 30 is just too big and heavy for this type of carry (atleast for myself anyway).

So, I started doing a little research on other carry methods for the 30, and decided that I would try an open top pancake type holster.

I looked at a lot of leather holster (I love leather -- No kydex for me) websites, and finally ended up going with www.littlefeatherleather.com I found their ad in one of the gun mags, and while I couldn't find hardly any information online, I did run across THIS article written Roy Huntington about the business. The guy is a one man custom leather shop, and after speaking with him on the phone, I went ahead and placed an order for a open top pancake holster and a mag pouch. He's a super nice guy, and seems genuinely interested in making sure you get what you are wanting....

The package arrived this past Monday (about a 4 week wait - as stated per our phone conversation) and to say I'm thrilled would be a definite understatement!

I don't know much of the leather business lingo, but this holster is contoured to the pistol like a glove (the mag pouch is also formed to an exact fit --- you can even see the line at the top of the mag and that little indent about an inch down).

Today was the first opportunity I had to wear the new combo, and after wearing the whole works for about 12 hours, I can honestly say I got exactly what I have been wanting.... The holster and pouch's contour fit nice and close to the body (the Glock was easily concealed with an untucked long sleeve shirt) and the retention is great... This pistol fits nice and snug.

All in all, I am EXTREMELY pleased with the new set up, and can't recommend Little Feather Leather high enough.... I am already having visions of a nice western rig dancing through my head! :)

HERE IS A LINK to some pics of the new combo. If any of you have had dealings with this leather shop, I would love to hear your experiences, and if at all possible see pictures of your goods.

Thanks for looking!

Was loading a few stripper clips this morning, and took another picture of the Glock holster....

Still loving the new carry method!

They look pretty good

Thank's for posting this holster report. They look like quality holster crafters. :) Did you get one of their belts? Your just having to wait 4 weeks was sure a lot better then the 12+ weeks Milt Sparks makes you wait.

Cerberus,

No, I did not get a belt from Little Feather Leather.... Just the holster and mag pouch.

The belt you see in the first series of pictures is one I ordered from a leather crafter at a knife show in Atlanta about five years ago... His name is Kenny Rowe from Hope, Arkansas. The belt turned out awesome, and has held up great!

Nikon Shooter, you have happened upon one of southern Indiana's best kept secrets.

He's a great guy, and really knows what works. He will also 'modify' his designs to suit the individual shooter, but only if the mods are safe and actually help the holster work.

NiIkon,
that is one sweet looking rig...Prices aren't bad either...

Now I gotta learn to make leather that well :what:

Nikon, for what it's worth have you tried riding the 'older' rig forward or backward of your hip bone?

I sometimes have a problem with my hip bone and often I have to wear it slightly forward of the hip bone or in a reverse rig further towards the back.

Although you didn't specify what was uncomforatable, I was just wondering.

Azrael,

Thank you for your kind comments about the new holster!

Navajo,

Regarding the "older" Milt Sparks Versa Maxx II holster..... Yes, I have moved it all around my right hand side, and you are exactly right.... Right on the hip bone is impossible.... I found the holster to ride better, and be a lot more comfortable slightly to the rear of the hip bone.... In approx. the 4:00 o'clock position.

In my initial post, I was so excited to have got a nice quality leather holster that was not at ALL uncomfortable to wear all day, I may have come across as being unsatisfied with the Milt Sparks.... Nothing could be farther from the truth. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the holster. It does exactly what it was designed to do, and I cannot fault their company (Milt Sparks) in any way.

I personally just never could get used to the rather chunky, heavy (when fully loaded) Glock model 30 inside my waistband. And, while the new holster I received from Little Feather Leather has become my choice for daily carry, I WILL NOT be getting rid of the Versa Maxx II.... With warmer weather right around the corner (and also times when "printing" is not an option) the Versa Maxx II will definitely be on my hip from time to time.

Reason,

If your experience is anything at all like mine (I called the dude and spoke to him about what I was after..... He's quite witty and very funny... Not to mention an AWESOME leather crafter!) I can assure you, you will be VERY satisfied.....

Please, PLEASE show us the new rig when it arrives! This dude is relatively unmentioned online, and I think we may have stumbled onto something great here!

Congrats on the new holster!

Five weeks later.

I'll post some first impressions after I get a little bit more time with the holster.
