New loader didn't think about that.

Make your own brass catcher bit a dip net and a block of wood. Just measure how tall you want it.

To the OP. I have an extra reloading manual I will give to you. Just PM me your information.
I think both the 38spl and 9mm loading kits come with the loading data I need. I'm going to get with a friend that reloads this weekend. He is going to help me get started. If I do need to get a manual I will PM you.
Thank you very much for your offer. And, I thank everyone here for suggestions and help.

You leave you 9mm on the ground? Oh. Wait. You must be firing a bottom feeder. With my 9mm revolver and moon clips all my brass goes home with me. Even in competitions where they say it's a "lost brass" match, I get to keep mine because it's attached to the moon clips.

Okay, okay. Yes, I do shoot CCP in IDPA for a couple months at the end of the year to qualify for the Sheep Dog match. So yes, I loose a few hundred rounds each year.

Like so many I started out with .38spl, the .357, then .45. I only started 9mm when I went to S&W 929 for competition.

I started out thinking about getting into reloading 38spl because they are still hard to find and price is high. I have not found any primers near me yet but thought I'd go ahead and round up everything else I need. Six shooters gun show will be in town next week, maybe I will find some then.
I ordered a Lee Precision loader kit for 38spl. While I was ordering the kit I noticed they had another kit for 9mm. I do shoot more 9mm than 38 so I thought why not go ahead and get the 9mm kit while I'm at it. Prices on 9mm are kind of good right now, but why not. Give me something to do this winter.
After ordering I got to thinking (that gets me into trouble every time). I can just dump my fired 38 brass straight out of the cylinder into my range bag, no problem. But, 9mm not so easy. Especially at an all outdoor shooting range with nothing but grass, dirt and mud. The ground is always covered with spent brass walked into the ground and grass. The guy says they get them up to sell but I can't tell by looking. Every time I'm there the ground is covered with walked in brass. The range charges by the hour. Seems I may have to pay extra for the time to search for brass not walked into the ground.
I'm just looking to reload for something to do during the cold/wet winter months ahead and not really interested in spending extra money for brass or some way to clean a bunch of mud filled brass.
What kind of outdoor range charges by the hour?
How much do they charge?

I'm a member at 2 different outdoor ranges.
1 in Ny has a 400y rifle range with 4 shooting positions.
A gong and target board at 400 and 300, IPSC plate and KYL rack at 200y along with a target board and targets at 100 and 50y
Rarely other than before huntingn season do I see anyone there.
They also have 8 pistol bays.
Total cost is $20 FOR THE YEAR.

The other is in Vermont and has 3 shooting positions at 100m
it also has a 50m and a 25m range plus archery
Total cost is $40 for the year.

Both are open 7 days a week from 8:00am till dusk you have the code to the padlock close the gate when you leave.

I deer hunt in Upstate New York. I joined the Greene Rod & Gun Club. $40 a year. When I get back to New York we always go to the range a few days before deer season and sight in our rifles. Plus they put on a nice breakfast from fall to spring every Tuesday morning for like $8.
Nice gun club to belong to.

It's owned by an older guy that built it all himself. It has a scope sight in area, A 12 yds pistol range, a rifle range, a shotgun range, and a pistol/rifle range for 22's and any pistol at any distance up to about 40 yds I think plus a tactical range. He's adding on a bow range and a hatchet throwing range this year I think. You can join @ $125 year and still pay $7 per visit or shoot as a visitor for $10 per hour. I do the $10 per hour because I usually only go once per month, one hour. I go because I like the old guy, he's friendly but stern on the rules, you are watched on camera but left alone (doesn't come around to bother you while you shoot), open 7 days per week, I like going in the middle of the week because there is only 1 or 2 shooters there if any,
Only two ranges near me. The other is $150 per year to join, small and I don't like it at all.
Even if there was another range I would probably stick with the one I go to now.

The gun show came to town today. I was the second person in line when they opened the doors. Made a complete circle around the building looking for the reloading table. There was None. Started another circle stopping at a table full of ammo. Started a circle around it. There on the other side was what I was looking for. 5/100 boxes of small pistol primers. CCI #500. I grabbed all @ $11 box. That was all the primers in the entire building and as far as I can find all in town. I was hoping to pick up some powder and bullets with the primers. But no, there was none. So I won't get started reloading this weekend like I wanted.

You’re lucky. Never forget that. There’s good and bad an about everywhere a person would want to live and don’t ever forget that either.
As for cheap shooting clubs, those went away down here when the big northern cities started emptying out and the refugees moved down here. Land is now so costly that trying to open a range is stupid expensive.
This place is one of the few that allows non-members.
Count your blessings and try not to be smug about them. Fate has a tendency to reverse smug grins.
