I heard that a new scout style mount was displayed at the 2004 Shot Show

http://www.tjgeneralstore.com/amegaranges.htm

Has anyone seen this in person? The website says it will be released soon. Seems like an awesome way to make your M1 Garand a decent night fighting rifle with an Aimpoint Comp ML2. I have posted this on a few other boards to get feedback. I took my M1 Garand to an urban carbine course a few years ago. I could anything the AR guys could do. The only problem was the night shoot. The lack of a red dot really put me behind the game. This would seem to solve this problem.

I have the Ultimak rail on the Mini-14 with an Aimpoint Comp ML2. It is awesome. I can't wait to get one or two of my shooter Garands set up with a red dot.

GREAT! I have a Ruger MK-II Weaver rail that I had intended to mount on my Garand for a scout scope. That would require drilling and tapping the barrel and modification of the handguard. This seems like just the ticket for my Dane!

Gewehr98, is that a sheepskin cheek pad on your gun?

Badger, do you honestly think that I would own that...that...

Thing?

Nope, not I. Although it does appear to be a sheepskin cheek pad. The value of the mounted optics and photon-emitters has got to be awfully darned close to the cost of the original AR-15 variant, though. :D

LOL, well probably significantly more. I see a few ACOG scopes on there and a $300 flashlight mount! This reminds me of how absurd modularity has become.

just curious (not trying to hijack the thread or anything), you guys with the scout mount for the mini 14's, where can I find one? I like the looks of them and wouldn't mind one myself.

Nigerian Pistol Grip stock and a fake magazine attached with a magnet. You'll be evil.

Ping!!!

Edited to add, Dave, I know you haven't seen it, but what are your initial impressions--how do you think it'll compare to the Ultimak?

Currently, Ultimak does not make a scout mount for the Garand. The only have it for the Mini-14. I talked to them yesterday about the Garand. Lyle says this is something he is going to do. It may be 6 months away.

Amega makes the scout rails for the Mini-14. They plan to offer them for the M1A and M1 Garand soon. My personal opinion is that the Ultimak is FAR better on the Mini-14. I went with the Ultimak because it has a lower profile. I can cowitness my iron sites with my Aimpoint Comp ML2.

The Mini-14 with the Ultimak and the Comp ML2 is an awesome gun. I like it far better than any AR I used to own. My gun shoots a solid 2-3 MOA and never, ever malfunctions. On the two Minis I have, I have shot thousands of rounds of cheap Wolf ammo and have not experience ONE malfunction. I can not say that about the ARs. Heck, in tactical classes lasting a couple days, we spent a large amount of time unclogging the ARs.
