After a year of playing around with my Karsten Custom Camo "Nighstalker" M1A stock, I was starting to get bored with the paint scheme and asked for advice on how to repaint the new stock. Karsten used some sort of clear coat or gloss to finish up the stock so I wasn't sure what to do.

Here is the orginal paint scheme

This afternoon, I was bored and finally got the balls up to tinker. I spent 5 bucks on a can of Krylon Khaki and went to work.

2 Hours later, this is what she looks like now.

I hate to be different (oh wait, no I don't :p ), but I liked the original look better. But, after seeing your painting/photography skills, I now have an extreme urge to buy an M1A (not that it wasn't there before, but now I want to take out a bank loan to do so  ). Nice work--the second stock seems to blend in with the building behind it.

Not after I hit it with a clear coat. Yesturday was a "test" run but it turned out so darn good I am going to stick with the orginal paint job and just seal it with a clear coat. :) Probably do that this weekend.

To be honest, I prefer mine which is "wood" colored. :D

In my area, there is more green foliage so the tan would stick out like a sore thumb.

Man that's nice!

Makes me think of coffee ice cream.

Looks good, but with Fred's around, I don't think I'd go and paint over a Karsten stock.

I bought two GI synthetic stocks from Fred, painted one of them with OD green, and the other with tan, and kept the nice Boyd's for special occasions. I think counting the paint, I was out less than 60 bucks (get the lowest grade (Select, now) synthetic, they're ugly as hell, but nothing paint won't fix).

I got tired of the tan, and made it black/green tigerstripe, and that's the one that folks like at the range. Very 1968.
