My wife gave me a CZ75 D Compact (aka PCR) for Christmas (she's a keeper, huh?). I never considered myself a "9mm kind of guy" but this thing is really nice, at least as accurate and reliable as any other handgun I own. It came with two 14-round magazines and I need more, of course. CZ doesn't currently list them on their website and my local gunshop wants $49 per to order them. I'd like to have the same magazines (I was told they are Mec-Gar), with rubber baseplates. Does anybody have an idea for less expensive magazines or should I just bite the bullet :D and order from the gunshop?

I'm going to shoot the .45s this weekend, so they won't get jealous. I've been feeling a little guilty, anyway.

Hey, two posts in three days. Woo-Hoo!

I am able to get them for around 32-34 bucks each. Apparantly the cost on these is going to remain high until all the 10 rounders are burned up.

Thanks, alduro. $32 - $34 is better than I've found. Can you pass along the vendor's name/ address/ etc. ? Any other CZ-related info would be much appreciated.

Spoonman, welcome to the wonderful world of CZs! CZ-USA has the mags for $37 each - you have to call them and ask, as they don't list them. Also, J&G Sales in AZ , http://www.jgsales.com/ ,carries them at $34 each. Some people use the ProMag CZ Compact 40 mags, as they will hold 13 or 14 rounds of 9mm, but I have never tried that in my PO1. I have one 14, and two Clintonised 10 rounders.
If you like nice custom grips, look here..http://www.imageseek.com/hakan/ .
Also, for a cool custom CZ holster, Eric at http://www.imageseek.com/hbeleather/ is a past master of CZ rigs. I know, my wife uses his COM III for her CZ 2075 RAMI.

Have fun!

I have a CZ85 Compact in .40s&w and a CZ75 Compact in .9mm. The Pro Mag .40 mags that I purchased from Natchez for about $12, will hold 15 .9mm rounds and work like a charm.

Since MecGar makes CZ OEM mags why would you want to pay for over priced mags from CZUSA? You can get MecGar mags from CDNN for around $20. :)

MecGar makes the full size 16 round mags, but not the Compact mags, IIRC, as they don't advertise them on thier website. The CDNN mags are the full size 16 round ones. They WILL work in Compact/PCR/PO1 pistols, but kinda stick out a bit....

The Promags, when they're made specifically for the CZ-75 Compact, in .40 S&W, seem to work beautifully with all of the compact CZs.

(Folk bad-mouth Promags -- and generally, that may be justified criticism -- but for these particular mags, its not appropriate.)

A large number of CZ compact owners on the CZ Forum are using these mags without problems. I've got 4-5 of them, and a couple of factory hi-caps. They work equally well.

(Note: Promag sometimes has quality control issues, and some won't drop free, as they should when the gun's mag brake is adjusted. They function otherwise, but won't drop free. Contact Promag and send them back for replacement. We've noticed, however, that after-market grips also hold some of these mags in, but don't do it for some of the slightly narrower factory mags.)

I paid about $13 for mine, from Natchez Shooter's Supply, and later replaced the mag springs ($4.50 each in packs of 10 from Wolff); found no reason to change the followers. That's a LOT less than the $35-$40 you have to pay for factory mags, elsewhere.

If you're still uncomfortable with Promags, Buy one factory hi-cap for the compact, and get a factory hi-cap for the full-size gun as a backup carry mag. And use the Promags at the range. (Full-size mags work fine, but extend an extra 3/4".)

My experience with Promags for the full-size CZ has been so/so.

Typically, you find mags for the Clones (EAA, Magnum Research) and they say they also work with the CZ.

That is sometimes the case, but the mag release in a clone gun is typically a hair lower than in a CZ, and mags for those guns have to be adjusted (by enlarging the top of the mag release notch) to get them working right.

Then too, the shape of the top of "Clone" mags is generally wider and they often rub against the trigger bar.

The "CZ 75 Compact" mags are, except for baseplate, nearly identical to the factory mags.

I thought the only CZ made Compact mags are the ten rounders and the 13 rounders with the curled base plate. The 14 rounders are made by MecGar. Don't they say made in Italy on them?

CZ doesn't make its own mags -- and hasn't for some time. The Promag hi-caps for the compact are really 10-round .40 mags, not true hi-cap 9mm mags. But the mag lip gap is such that they work with either 9mm or .40 without a problem.

Mec-gar makes the CZ factory mags, now, and several other firms made them in the past. All of them, regardless of manufacturer, are made to CZ specs, so they work fine.

Mec-Gar doesn't seem to be making any after-market "compact" hi-caps, yet. So its CZ factory (which are probably Mec-Gar) or Promag.

Some folks say that the EAA "compact" mags work; I have no direct experience with them. I do know that the Baby Eagle compact mags do NOT work.

Oh...sorry Spoonman....were you talking to me?

The dealers name is SMR Firearms here in Hurst Texas. A phone listing will get his info to you. It's still not much cheaper than the what the other guys suggest. Just local to me.

Talked to MecGar - they aren't making the CZ Compact 9mm magazines yet, and aren't sure when/if they will, but they MIGHT be coming out with the CZ Compact 40 mags at the SHOT show. Hmmm. The guy took my name and number, and said he'd pass my message onto the next sales manager when they come back from the SHOT show. Hmmm. Looks like I gotta save up another $45.50 for another factory hi-cap, which mine was a used one, with the LE markings ground off. No other markings whatsoever.

Just an update. I emailed J&G about their mags because there are some 14 rounders that have the metal baseplate and others that have the rubber base plate (like the ones that came with my P01). I wanted to make sure I was purchasing the rubber base pad mags. Here's what J&G responded:

"We are currently waiting on a new batch from CZ and will not know what kind of floorplate they will have until they arrive here."

So it looks like they are out of them...................guess I'll give the dealer in Hurst a call and see what he has. I'm not in a big hurry as I have 5 of them but I want about 5 or so more before the next stupid ban hits the books! :cuss:

"the next stupid ban hits the books! "

Well,

Thanks to Bush and the mean, nasty, Republicans...you won't have to worry about that for another 4 years.

Note to self: Thanks for not voting Libertarian. :D

You MIGHT NOT have to worry about another FEDERAL ban, but a couple of states are moving in that direction, already.

Washington (state) is looking at a new ban, and email from several different organizations here in NC say a small group, with a lot of police departments behind it, is looking to put a variant of the AWB in place here, too. May nothing come of it, but you never know.

Keep in mind, too, that Bush said he'd sign another gun ban if it came to his desk...
