I finally got my barrel from Mcgowen, headspaced and mounted. I actually recieved it yesterday. My first impression was WOW this sucker is heavy. This is my first heavy barrel rifle and I really like the feel of it, VERY SOLID and very balanced feeling on my rifle. I checked the bore and it was very bright and shiny, next the crown, it looked to be what it was supposed to be no mars or marks or anything of the sort. The barrel was very shiny upon opening, NO fingerprints whatsoever until I touched it. It took some time to get my barrel channel opened up but it finally happened I will have to seal the foam though, no biggie. I dont know when I will be able to shoot it, my range is about an hour away. Here are the pics all mounted up.

How do you like your stockade stock?

I ordered a McGowan barrel in 243 a couple of months ago. You are ahead of me since I have not installed it onto my rifle. I just placed an order for a Shilen barrel in 308 since I wanted to compare the Shilen to McGowan. I'm pretty sure they both will shoot about the same.

I run a Shilen and a buddy of mine runs a McGowan both compare quite favorably in the accuracy dpt

Aubie I LOVE both of my Stockades, Kevin is an artist all himself. I would buy savages just to use stockade stocks, thats how confident I am in them.

I had a McGowen some time back on a 22-250. Whoever chambered it screwed it up and made it too long. That said, was one of the best shooting barrels that I have ever had and I have had a few of the others. 1/4in 100yd groups were not uncommen. RG
