I didn't see another (more appropriate) place to post this, hope this is ok with y'all. What have I done? Joined another gun forum! I have noticed over the years that anyplace Steve hangs out is going to be in the top 5%, so I joined up when I saw Mr. Camp on staff.

And to keep this thread somewhat on a shooting topic, my ten year old daughter has asked me to teach her to shoot. She has always hunted with me, as well as being an avid fisherman (fisherperson? fisherwoman?? ) Anyway, she can catch fish. So I'm glad to teach her to shoot as well. I'm thinking of skipping the pellet gun and starting with a bolt action .22, one cartridge at a time.

So anyway, that's my latest project - hello to all.

Welcome aboard, sir!

As for your ten-year-old daughter, if she's like most ten-year-olds I've known, she's neither a fisherman, nor a fisherwoman, nor a fisherperson - she's a mermaid! :D

Welcome! This board isn't as big as some, but it isn't down as often as TFL. ;)

10 years old is old enough for most kids to begin shooting .22s with adult supervision, IMHO. Heck, when I took my hunter safety course, there were six-year olds there :scrutiny: :).

fisherman, fisherperson, fishwerwoman.

I think the word you're looking for there is "angler" :D

Welcome aboard. 10 years old with a .22LR is fine. I think I was 8 the first time I got to shoot one -- and I was a pretty little tike! Tipped the scales at about 50-55 pounds at the time.

Thanks for the warm welcome! SkunkApe - I'm in the REAL Heart of Dixie, Sweet Home Alabama, Montgomery. I'll update my profile...

GigaBuist - Angler! That word is in my usable vocabulary, must be the daily barrage of PCBS that repressed it.

P95Carry - I've got two sons ages 2 and 3. At this point I'm afraid they'll never see a Red Ryder! At any given time, chances are if you look in the back yard one of them will be holding the other by the hair of the head with one hand while clubbing him with the other. Once they are a few years past sugar-induced rage, there may be Red Ryder's in their future.;) Kids are funny!

Welcome aboard!

Score another point for Dixie. :D
I'm in AR ....you know that state where your mail ends up if it don't end up in AZ or AK...

Yep - Southern gal can't start too soon, to learn to shoot - IMO.

Welcome aboard Timber.Got a 3yr old daughter myself who wants to shoot too.Since the wife and I are primarily muzzleloaders, when the daughter "shoots" she always reloads from the front.:D

Welcome, Timber!

Eventually your kids will be old enough to clean your guns and run your reloading press. Hang in there.
