Hey guys, I just went to bass pro and they said that they would have the new mini 14 next month. He said that they are making the new model to be more accurate. Does anyone know about this? And how would you go about getting/making a suppressor for a mini? thanks

I assume you're talking about a flash suppressor? A google search will probably get you a few sources to go along with the ones you will undoubtedly get here.

If you're talking about a sound suppressor; that involves Federal paperwork and a Class 3 dealer.

I would definitely be interested in a more accurate Mini-14. Does anyone have any more info on this? I looked on the Ruger website but did not see anything about it. Is there some other place I can go to find out more?

I just got off the phone with the sales department at Ruger. It is true. They can't give details. However, a new version of the Mini-14 is coming. The lady said they would have more details in a month.

The Mini will shoot to 2-3 MOA with no POI change by shortening the barrel to 16".

cozyc,

If you mean a flash suppressor, check out www.tapco.com. There is one I'm pretty sure they have that combines a flash suppressor with an HK-style front sight; you just drive out the existing front sight pin, remove the existing sight (toughest part of the process, I've heard), slide the new unit on and replace the pin.

I didn't ask. Sorry. I will be real interested to see what they do to the gun. Hopefully it will have:

1. Thicker barrel.
2. Better rear sight
3. Use the same magazine and be sold with a 10 or 30 rounder.

I just called Ruger myself. The person I spoke to was very vague about the whole thing. He said they have not been told much yet.

He said there are some changes being made to the Mini-14, but did not know if there were any changes being made to the Mini-30.

He said he did not know what the changes would be but thought there might be something different about the front sight.

He also was not sure when the new Mini-14 might be coming out, but that next month might be right.

That is about all I could get from him.

If anyone can get any other pieces of the puzzle, please post them. Maybe we can get a little bit clearer picture of the thing.

Those of us stuck behind the Cali Curtain should be real interested. Interesting on the front sight. I hope the new one has protective ears. If they release a new rifle without adding a thicker barrel, someone should be fired. A ten round mag would be the very minimum too.

Interesting. This is the first I've seen of a new Mini.

I wonder if Ruger will have a trade up program, or who I can foist mine off on. . .

:)

As long as it doesn't have a magazine safety and internal lock.

Hopefully it will have;

1. Thicker barrel.----possible

2. Better rear sight.----possible

3. Use the same magazine and be sold with a 10 or 30 rounder. ----not gonna happen

Rumor has it that the tooling is worn out. But just in case they do make changes,

Wish list:

Thicker barrel
6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel
AR style mag latch
20" barrel option

I'm betting it gets none of the above though.

Things that should be fixed in the Mini:

6.8mm availability.
10 round mag standard, 30 optional from the factory.
Folding stock that actually works available.
Protected front sight and flash suppressor option.
16.5" barreled (heavy barrel) "K" model

Better mag release or at least an extended one standard. Most rifles have a Mini-type mag release (G3, AK, G36, XM8, etc) so this is less of a big deal.

Better care taken in manufacture.
