I was in a pawn shop today and saw a model 70 30-06 with a claw extractor. The rifle looked brand new with a scnauble fore end. The bolt had a number e graved on it that matched the last 4 digits of the number on thereceiverr. Any clues on what it was . the serial number starts with g and has seven digits.

It was probably a Model 70 Classic.Basically a more newly made edition of the pre-1964 controlled-feed rifle.Since it was made on CNC machinery,it is perhaps better quality than a pre-64,but has less collector value.I have one in Classic Featherweight (.300 WSM) and love it.Beautiful thing.
