So last night I picked up a new 590 Mariner at Bass Pro Shops and was excited to take it out today and do some shooting. Shot my first round and went to eject the shell and it wouldn't slide back. I literally had to put all my strength in to it and jiggle the hell out of the front end of the gun to get it to release the shell. Dad shot a few rounds, same thing happened to him. This was with Winchester Super X heavy game loads from Walmart, which we've been using for years with my dad's 870 and my old 500. I saw a thread from 2006 of a forum member complaining about this exact issue; 5 years later and Mossberg is still having issues with "certain" types of ammo? Do you guys think it's a dud? I'm considering having Mossberg replace it, but to be honest I'm thinking I'll take my money and buy from a different manufacturer. Thoughts?

Have you inspected the chamber for rough edges? This doesn't sound the like occasional extraction issue often seen on new 870's, this sounds more like a repeatable functional problem. If it's easy to just get it replaced I would do so.

It's the Winchester brand's problem, not the Mossberg.

I've had an 870 Super Mag do the exact same thing with the exact same load you're using. My Mossberg 500 never did, but I stopped getting Winchester Super X and didn't put that many through the Mossy.

try some different ammo before you dump the gun. Mine runs everything (as it should, IMO) but you may have a rough chamber, or you may have a funky batch of brass.

Run a coupled hundred rounds through it (if you can) and see if it works more smoothly.

Check that your ejector screw is tight!

Mine did the same and it eventually jammed on my 3rd outing... Got home and took it apart for a full breakdown and reassembly~ found the problem, tightened it up really well and haven't had a single issue since...
