Hi all,
I just got back from the gun store with a shiny new Beretta Neos. It's my first semi-auto. I'm wondering if I need to do any oiling/lubing before I try to shoot it the first time. I've never owned or cleaned a semi-auto before.

I have one of those. It doesn't take a lot of lube, but a little is a good idea, and I recommend cleaning the NEOS before you shoot it the first time and then after every time you shoot, and maybe every 100 rounds if you shoot a lot at one session.

Put a small amount of something such as Rem Oil (available at Wal Mart) anyplace metal touches something else, whether plastic or metal, when the gun recoils.

More specifically:

1. Point the gun in a safe direction. Make sure the gun is empty. Magazine out, rack the slide two or three times. Put the safety on. Lock the slide back.

2. Take the barrel assembly off by pressing the button and turning the screw on the right side, then take the slide off by just dropping the slide release lever.

3. That's as far as you need to go for most purposes. Where the barrel attaches to the frame should be lightly lubed, and the bottom of the slide rails, and the corresponding places on the frame. I would also lightly lube the inside of the slide, which rubs on some other parts.

My NEOS likes jacketed ammo best and has had some feeding problems with lead hollow points. Try a red dot on it. An inexpensive red dot from BSA or Simmons is really fun!
