Hi guys. Im trying todecide on a new hi cap handgun for defense and Im kinda stumped. I like the xd especially the 9mm because in my opinion it offers a large amount of shots before I have to reload. I have a Springfield 1911 that I am in love with and love to shoot but I want more shots from one magazing so I can only carry 2 extra magazines and be good to go. Any suggestions?

I have an XD9, and enjoy shooting it. The 16rds is a definite plus over a single stack. The new XDM(.40cal) has a 16rd capacity if you're looking for something bigger than 9mm.
The new Smith M&Ps are nice.
Also some of the CZ 9mm carry 18-20rds. The CZ 75 SP-01 is on my wish list. But the all alloy frame may get heavy for carry.

overall height.
I think someone said the 19 rd mag will work in a 75B
I got a 75B 2 1/2 months ago, 580 rds through the gun so
far and 100% reliability, accurate, great finish and features for
a service pistol for the price.
I also shoot a 1911/.45 ACP, the CZ 75B is a bit more
economical as a bonus.

Let me get this straight.
You want to jump up to a pistol that holds 14-15 rounds per mag so that you can drop down to carrying only 2 spare magazines.
In other words, you don't feel comfortable with anything less than 45 rounds on you? So if you carry the 1911 you need about 5 or 6 spare mags?

When I recently bought a new high-capacity carry gun, it was an XD-9. I love the way that thing balances, grip is perfect for my hands, and it shoots very accurately.
No complaints, and I can't think of a better 9 to recommend to you. However, if budget is an issue, take a look at Bersa's 9. Also a nice gun, especially for the money.

Get to a rental range and shoot all the major brand 9mm autos. That's the only way to tell you what's going to fit your hand well and what you're going to shoot well.
I also strongly prefer 1911s, but I always keep at least one 9mm handgun in my collection for cheap practice and ammo availability. I went with a S&W 5946 (DAO version of the 5906) because the trigger pull is the same every time and it was cheap since it was a used gun. Readily available magazines were a big part of the decision too.
Based on the criteria of easy to find used for cost savings and cheap readily available mags I'd look hard at S&W, Glock, and Beretta.
