Hi all,

Looking for a little help, I was able to pick up some N320 and I've never used it before. Since it's real hard to find pistol powder these days I thought I should grab some while I could. I only use HP-38 for my 9mm and 45ACP but heard that VV powders are pretty good and I was almost out of my current powder.

So here's my question, looking at the load data on Lapua's website they only list 115gr 9mm at a COL of 1.14 and I currently load all my 9mm to 1.125. Does any one have some load data for this COL or should I load longer as the website states. I also use Berry's bullets for my loads thanks for any help and info on this powder. Just looking for target loads and I only load for two guns a M&P full size and a S&W6906 compact.

Use the 1.125 OAL. Just follow their data, knowing that the pressures will be a little less at that longer OAL. It's relatively fast for 9MM, so I would be prone not to go over the data, despite the longer OAL. My favorite light 9MM load is a 124 Gr plated at .1 Gr under their 124 Gr FMJ data.

VihtaVuori's data in 9mm tends to run at maximum cartridge length and with some bullets there is no way they will pass the plunk test at those COLs. Determine your COL by what will fit in your pistol and work up slowly. I've never used N320 in 9mm but I've used a lot in 45 Auto, 45 Colt and low range 357 Magnum. It's one of the best for 45 Auto. Very clean, consistent and accurate. I've heard it works well in 9mm but I used N350 and 3N37 for my 9mm loads with VV powders. You won't get maximum velocity in 9mm with N320, but then again you aren't getting it with HP38 either. You should be able to come up with some good light target loads though.

You might want to invest in a One Book - One Caliber book in 9mm too. The VihtaVuori section has data for 90gr - 130gr bullets. Or get a VihtaVuori data pamphlet. The do have data for more than just 115gr bullets in 9mm with N320.

The Brian Enos forum will have a lot of posters with experience with N320 in 9mm.

On a previous post, the One Book - One Caliber book was mentioned and there was a request about where to get these data books. Didn't have time yesterday to
chime in and cannot remember what post it was. I have a book for each caliber I load and they are really good to have. I ordered mine 10+years ago from Midway or Midsouth but just saw them for sale at Cabela's.

Good info as I also plan on using it for 45acp, if I could have bought HP-38 I would have stayed with it as I have always had good results with it. But from the looks of things it will be a long time before that stuff is sitting on the shelf's.

I started my reloading journey with a four pound jug ov VV-N320. I use it to load 9mm and 45 acp. I like it a lot but I am working my way through the last pound now and I have developed some loads using hp-38 to replace it. I was using that for 38 sp and thought it would be nice to use one powder for all three. I use 124gn bullets in my 9mm loads so I can't speak to the lighter 115gn bullets with VV320, but you should be able to find a load that works for you. One thing to note is that VV320 does not meter quite as well as HP-38 in my experience.
