I got a chance to checkout the new range in the Sacramento area today. The range is in Elk Grove. The facility is brand spankin' new. I can't believe that Sacramento went so long between indoor ranges!!(not counting Mangan because it's not open all the time) Well, The Gunroom has made a good first impression on this shooter. There are 20 25yard lanes divided amongst 2 rooms. One room has 8 lanes and the other houses the remaining 12. The place still smells of paint. The ventihilation is good. You don't end up with your own personal cloud after shooting 10rnds of .45. I think the best part of the range is the lighting. Each stall has a control switch for a spotlight down your lane in addition to the existing lighting. Some indoor ranges I've been too have been too dark. I was able to practice offhand shooting at 25yards with my scoped .22 because the lighting was good. The stall walls are good at deflecting brass from the shooter next to you. Mike, the RO while I was there, was professional and good natured, no threats about shoving guns up your a**. The facility is well stocked with supplies. The retail store hasn't opened up yet, but you can see where they plan to put it. Don't know about rentals as I was shooting my own. A gal did rent some kinda pistol gripped shotgun to try out. Pretty impressive shooting from the hip on her part, right in the center. Overall impression of the range is that it is a top notch operation. Good facilities, good people, and it's got AIR CONDITIONING because it's like 104 degress outside!! OK NorCal peoples, everyone give The Gunroom a try and let me know what you think. Range fee was $10, heard that at times when it's really busy and there's a wait, they could charge $10 an hour (I didn't verify this. I was there for a coupla hours and only paid $10. There were only about 10-15 people there between 10-12. ) I've included some rather crappy quality pictures that I took. I'll probably do a lot of pistol shooting there, but still go to Rancho for rifles, unless the Gunroom expands to 100yd rifle targets that can take a .308 round.
