Been looking to get in to a more powerful cartridge to shoot long range with. Looked at the 338 Lapula but didn't want to spend that much money for a rifle that shoots it. I prefer Remington 700s. I have a couple in 308 with Varmint barrels that shoot great. I decided to go with the 300 Win mag and the Rem. LR Model # 84164 had everything I wanted for a fair price. Weather here has been cold and windy since I picked up the rifle, but yesterday Feb 1st was 45 with slight wind.
After sighting in at 100, moved to 300yd and was very happy with the results. the load is 72gr RE17, 168 Hornady HPBT Match bullet, Hornady case, Federal LR Match primer (I was out of LR mag primers) scope is Bushnell Tactical Elite 10X, a scope that I have had great luck with. In the rush to get to the range I left my sandbags home so I used the rifles bi-pod for front rest and my shoulder for the rear. With 100yd dialed in on the scope I used the mil-dot to shoot @ 300

here is the result.. I think it is a keeper. With some load development and using the crosshair, believe it will do even better, but a great start.
