thanks but i live in australia and cannot have a semi-auto so i guess i am limited to boltaction, by the way it will be used for a general purpose gun with some long shots taken
Have you considered a .22-250, .243Win., or better yet a .260 Rem/6.5 Swede. All have a light recoil impulse and are all better for long range than the .223 or .204. For moderate range varmint destruction the .17Rem is a appealing round, but I have no experience with one.
The .17Rem should be virtually recoiless, and the others have very little, but more than a .223/.204. I would get a Winchester 1885 Low Wall in .223...similar to a good ole Quigley Rifle in a slightly girlier caliber ...or a Browning A-Bolt Hunter or Medallion. Both are only offered in .223Rem.
No experience with it, but should be no different than any other rifle that shoots jacketed bullets. Of course a .17cal cleaning rod/jags are a prerequisite. What I can tell you is that it shoots like a laser for short-moderate range.
