So the wife and I went to Sports Authority the other day for some new shoes. They had a promo going on,pend $300 and get $100 cash card. So we got shoes and some ammo and the card I was going to use toward a new 10/22. The gun was priced $229.99 so after tax about $250. Well I went through the 24 hour wait and went back to pick it up today. When the salesman took it to the counter she rang it up and it was $199.99 there were no sales or anything but they still sold it for that amount. they then took the $100 off making it $99.99 after tax $107.97. :D I'm not trying to brag but I do have to say it was a good day. Now the upgrades begin. I just added a Houge Stock i had in the closet and next will be a bull barrel and scope. Lastley here is the question. Without breaking the bank, What bull barrel and scope do you guys recomend?:D

Been down that road, start with a economical 10/22 and before long it's up to $1200.

Oh yea, for a barrel go with a Volquartsen and a 36X Leupold.

yes a vq barrel and a 36x leopold would be one way to spend 1200 on a cheap 22. or you could spend 300 like I did and go green mountain and mueller

I found the Houge stocks won't support the heavy barrels and accuracy is crap. Go with the Fajen laminated thumbhole.

wow $229 for a 10/22? i think that is a little high. what model was it? here they go for $169 for basic 16" barrel. and a few years ago they were $99-120 for the same gun. wish i would've bought one then. but i'm happy with what i have now. either way it's still a nice gun.

guess they charge you for what they want. i'm pretty sure i can get two of them from a local shop for $300 cause i buy from them all the time. i've also seen them as high as 300 for the basic 16" during hunting season.

I went Green Mountain and Barska. 50-100 yds it's a little tack driver. I love my 10/22's but you can easily dump a ton of money into them.

I agree with dom; the scope is good- you could also go with a swift, burris, bushnell, nikon, pentax or Weaver, and you would put yourself way ahead of the game right there...

Nice score! I bought mine a couple years ago and it was $179 on sale so that price sounds about right.
VQ stuff is nice but I went with a Green Mountain bull barrel. Keep in mind unless that stock has a .920 channel you may need a different stock or go with a sporter profile barrel. I went with a .920 Hogue overmold, no accuracy problems with mine (doesn't touch the stock under the barrel, maybe I was lucky).
The mueller scopes seem popular for rimfire guys but I haven't tried one. I got a used weaver K4 and it works great.
One of the best (and inexpensive) upgrades you can make is a hammer/trigger kit to get rid of the factory trigger pull that breaks like the proverbial glass jar. I got this one, but there are many places that sell it: VQ Trigger Kit Gives you a crisp 2lb trigger and the auto bolt release is a nice feature to boot.
Set a budget ahead of time so you don't end up with a 10/22 that cost more than a nice AR-15! They are fun and easy to upgrade which means trouble for your wallet!

Yah the stock i put on it will take a bull barrel. Its the .920 Houge in green color. After reviewing i think ill go with a green mountain barrel. A lot of people suggest them and they are not too expensive. My second choice will be a buttler creek barrel. Ill get whatever one i find first at a gun show or local shop. As for scope I put a Tasco 4x scout style scope I had laying around. Still up in the air on a final choice.

Shoot it first before putting the bull barrel on it. Mine drives tacks and has never had anything done to it.

I'd skip on the Butler Creek barrel. The one I had didn't shoot as well as the original Ruger stainless factory barrel. I'd go with the Green Mountain too.

After buy'n a 182.00 ruger 10/22 for my wife and finding it shot 2 1/2" groups at 50 yards. I bought a GM 20"ss barrel from cabelia's for 99.00 and a boyds unfinished stock for 62. Did my own oil finish. Did my own trigger job and bedding and shoots under 1/2" at 50 yards with mini-mags. Can't wieght to try a match ammo on it. Extra's cost 182 bucks to the door. Should have bought a savage or marlin and most likely been money ahead.
