Bought my new 10/22 Tactical (one with the hammer forged bull barrel and included bipod) and took it to the range today.

After experimenting around with 4 different .22LR ammunitions:

Remington Golden Bullet
Federal Premium
Federal Bulk Pack
CCI Mini Mag

The CCI turned out to be the best ammo for this gun at this particular time.

Specs on the rifle:
Ruger 10/22 Tactical with hammer forged bull barrel and included bipod.

Using a 4-16x40 scope for the optic.

Pic of the rifle:

Here are some pics of the targets from the range.

This gun has the possibility to be a real tack driver. Wil llet the forum know when I do some 100 yard shots. The range I went to was a DOC range and had no 100 yard range.

im surprised that the minimags were your best so far. they were some of my worst.

i found some of my best groups with winchester super X, and surprisingly, winchester bulk pack wildcats.

i have yet to try the wolf stuff that everyone seems to love.

If you want to take it out to 100, you might want to try something sub sonic. Although I do get decent results with a few different types of high velocity ammo at 50 yards, things can get pretty ugly at distances where they fall under the speed of sound.

thats been my experience as well.

in fact it is between 70-80yd mark that things go nuts with the particular velocity 40g rn stuff mine likes.

my 60yd 3/8" five shot groups excite to 7/8th at 90.

i never woulda believed it.

I am feeling real sorry for you!!!! :(

Try to get some wolf or sk to try, sme ammo, loadee by lapua. Also a box of fed match 922a. Cost more at around 10bucks or under but should be worth atleast one box, loaded by RWS and is there r-50 or rejected r-100. Looks like some good groups. Maybe ruger has some better barrels now.

lol, i'd bet dollars to donuts you will find 3/8-1/2" groups with that rifle. just need the right ammo.

try some medium to low velocity solids, not plated.

try eley match, wolf, and as silly as it may sound, some winchester wildcat bulk.

i was absolutely shocked by the accuracy of this stuff in my g.m. barreled 10/22.

We should be able to bring that group in substantially with better ammo.

In my experience, and as stated above, using ammo that doesn't go trans-sonic works best.

CCI Standard Velocity
Wolf Match Target
Wolf Match Extra
Eley Match
RWS Target
RWS Match

etc. etc.

I'll bring some over to Steve's for you or along on our next range trip.
