I've carried a gun for a living from 1970 to 2003. Now I carry one when I think one might be handy to have. Carried S&W Revolvers mostly(still do) but while in law enforcement I also carried a S&W 4516, 3913. 3 different SIGs and 5 Custom Colts. Still have one of the Colts. Wanted a lightweight 45 Auto without spending a fortune for it. Criteria outside price and weight was accurate, dependable, with good sights and decent trigger.

Weeding out process boiled down to two weapons: Factory reconditioned Sig P245 or a Ruger 345.

Ruger was $100.00 less but some folks didn't think them reliable. Sig had reliability going for it but parts and accessories more expensive. And the Sig grip was not comfortable.

Ruger grip felt great in my hand. Bought the Ruger yesterday. WEnt to the Range today. NO FTFs, NO FTEs. Shot 100+rds of SWC Lead handloads both 180 grs and 200. JHPs by Cor-Bon, Speer and Federal, Hardball by W-W.

Best group of the day was fired by a handload of 180SWC-L 6.5grains of Unique and a CCI primer and load to an oal of 1.230". 7 rounds went into 1.4" at 15 yds offhand.

I like this weapon, I am happy with it!!!! It's accuracy is close to my old Sig 220 European mag release model that I carried 20 years ago. For those still interested Serial# is: 664-010XX. If anything breaks I'm sure Ruger will fix it. :)

Sounds real good there Bronco45. I have a friend who is getting a P345 in a couple of weeks from my dealer. I'll make a copy of your post and give it to him. He'll get real excited then :D . He has been a 45 Long Colt type for years and decided to get his CCW. After plenty of research he picked the 345.

Bronco45,
After some initial problems, my P345 has been dead reliable. Glad to see you're enjoying it. Mine's a keeper and great fun to shoot. :)

Nice reviews on the 345. Have seen data on single action trigger pull but none on double action trigger pull. How does it stack up against the SW double actions you carried?
