New Ruger a bit loose?

Call Ruger and see what happens. After all this, I'd probably be looking at a different tier of gun thinking custom. Buy the foundation and have it built-refined to taste.

Among my S&W's they exhibit different levels of tolerances. They shoot good though some a tiny bit nicer than others. Cosmetically, they vary to some degree though at this level they are acceptable and the first few trips out I'll have added my own touches unintentionally.

If you aren't happy with the gun send it in.

It's a simple solution. If they say it's within tolerance and send it back, trade it towards a gun you are happier with.

I have two Smiths with minor cosmetic issues. But they both shoot straight. So I don't care much.

I don't shoot a revolver for precision groups at 50 yards, so I don't see what I'd be looking for in how it shoots. A b/c gap of ten thou and a lot of end shake won't necessarily spit lead, but that doesn't make it good.

Regardless of how it shoots, the assembly shows poor workmanship for a $700 gun. Besides the cylinder so loose it rattles, there's a large burr on the frame. If it was a stainless gun, I might have just knocked it off. But this one is blued. It's going back to Ruger. It's a real pity because I bought three revolvers from Smith & Wesson and every one of them had to go back for a quality defect or several. One S&W is going back for the second time. A replacement cylinder is so poorly fitted the hand won't rotate it reliably and it strikes primers off center. I decided I would have to be a fool to buy yet another Smith & Wesson, so I bought a Ruger, and a single-action no less, something Ruger ought to be able to get right.

Iffin you don't buy a revolver for accuracy, why worry about the CG? Iffin you're only worried about the cosmetics, why didn't you inspect the gun better visually before you accepted it? Being wrapped in the oil paper does not hide any blemishes like the old packing in Cosmoline did. Sounds like to me you should probably avoid revolvers altogether unless you are going custom. $ lemons outta 4 revolvers is not a good average. I've had more guns than I can remember in my lifetime(64 yrs), and I haven't had 4 lemons yet. Is it luck, or just knowing what to look for? I dunno. While I can appreciate your frustration, accepting a gun that is not cosmetically acceptable is not the gun manufacturer's fault. The large burr could have been done by a previous prospective buyer, or it could have been refused by a previous prospective buyer who looked it over more closely. Unaccepted guns don't get thrown out, just sent back for someone else to order.

Geez, tough crowd. A guy mentions some problems with a new gun and next thing you know people are accusing him of everything short of multiple personalities. He asked for guidance and got trampled.

Lots of Ruger fanboys here?

While I own a few Rugers and have bought a few for my boys, I'm a far cry from a Ruger "Fanboy". But then I didnl;t buy any of them expecting them to be an example of art and perfection. Just not what they are. They are reasonably priced firearms, that work well for the average Joe. Again, I can understand the OPs frustration, but some of it is self induced, while some of it seems to just be chronic snibbling. Call the dam manufacturer and see what their explanation is before you feel the need to come on a public forum and vent. If Ruger says the BC is acceptable as well as the blemish on the frame, then move on. If they say neither is acceptable and send it in on our dime, then do it. Seems to me, S&W is still trying to please the OP, yet he considers anyone else to be a fool for buying one. I worked in residential construction for over 45 years. Some folks ain't never happy and will always find something to complain about. Sometimes it's cause they set their expectations too high, sometimes they don't really understand what they are getting exactly what they paid for, and sometime they are just chronic snibblers, always looking at the glass half full. We ain't seen the OPs guns, either the Ruger or the Smiths. We are taking his word for it that they are all junk. One thing I have come to realize when it comes to the internet is, unless one can verify the source, you need to take it with a grain of salt and you need to realize it's a one sided perspective. Tough crowd? Maybe, but then when it comes to internet forums, you get what you pay for.
