Hello All:

While my S&W 17-9 is back at the factory for warranty work (peening on the cylinder stop notches), I thought I'd look around for some nice grips for the plinker. I found myself wondering whether the revolver is square butt or round butt; aren't all new-production S&W's round butt? Somehow I recall these reintroductions having square butts, though. As I don't have the revolver in hand, I need a little help. Anybody know for sure whether my gun is sqaure or round? Also, I think I might want a pair of stags - where's the best place to get 'em these days?

Thanks!

Take the grips off

I would, but that right there is my problem. The revolver is away at S&W for warranty work. I think you're right, though - aren't all new S&W revolvers round butt?

Thanks,

You have to be watchful these days because there are indeed some square butts coming out of the factory. Both versions of both "Classic" rimfire models (17 & 18) are square butts. As are several other models.

Thanks Gents,

It does appear that my 17-9 is indeed square butt! Now, on to the next question - where is the best place to get a nice pair of k frame, square butt stag grips?

Thanks!
