I have just purchased a AR 15 Colt Sporter II and because of aging eyes must scope it for distance shooting. I am planning on using a see thru carry handle mount. I want a fairly compact scope of 1.5 x 5 power or possibly a 2 x 7 power scope of decent quality( no cheapie 49.95 ones). May I have some of your recommendations on just what to buy for use on an AR15,;) and any on line dealers you could possibly recommend also. Many thanks!

The best AR scopes out there are EoTech, Aimpoint, and Trijicon ACOG. I don't think the Aimpoint and EoTech have any magnification, but a magnifier is sold separately. I know the ACOG magnifies, but I am not sure of the magnification. The EoTech and Aimpoint are $350-500 depending on model plus the cost of the mount. The ACOGs are $800-1200 depending on model. You can check them out at www.code4lesales.com and a variety of other places. Also, Leupold has a sharp looking tactical scope (I think the Mark4 or something). I believe it is well over $1000.

I am currently waiting for my first AR to come in, but I researched scopes briefly and those are my top picks and what I remember off the top of my head. I'm sure other members can add to what I said. Good luck.

I forgot about SWFA. I bought a scope off of them too. They had great service and good prices. I highly recommend them.

acog great!:)
an eo-tech or aimpoint with 3x magnifier.
