Go over the 4 rules with your basic Jack Webb approach :)

When every body is squared away on that and this is family on the compound geared training BTW

"this is a Remington .22 caliber shot gun, it is in what is refered to as condition 3, The gun IS loaded in the magazine tube (illustrate mag tube by with drawing tube and pouring one cartridge into paw) , but not in the chamber until the bolt is cycled (open bolt and illustrate lifter with round in it ((model 34 :D)) (pushing down lifter and cartridge and as the bolt is eased forward show them the empty chamber just before bolt goes into battery and explaining every question while you all ways control that deadly muzzle into a super safe area).
Go out to raised 50 foot up front porch and pointing to the chicken coop 100 feet down and out "this .22 caliber shotgun has a range on small rodents of about half that distance, if you have a need to shoot beyond half that distance or about 50 feet then we use the .410 shotgun
place back the .22 and get out the old H&R folding .410 I keep the same place as the Remington 34 .22 shotgun and show how to open it explaining as you eject the live round that this is loaded in the chamber in condition 2 as we call it , and that there is indeed a shell in the chamber but requires the hammer to be cocked before it will fire. Go over the manual of arms with a identified .410 snap cap until every one can do it. Explain it is loaded with a "target" load of #12 bird shot that only has the harmfull range to be about 100 yards the same as the .22 shotgun, but the larger payload in the choked barrel will kill rats and ground squirrel to 100 feet instead of 50 feet. The .410 makes alot more noise too, At this point we aim at the old gourds I set up a little away from the chicken coop and shoot one at 50 feet with the .22 smooth bore with rat shot. With a almost suppressor like pop I get a dozen tiny #12 pin pricks in a 4" gourd.
Back up and mild crack the .410 with a full choke shooting Rio #12 loads and the gourd bounced a little from 100 feet! Lotsa #12 holes, twice as many :D
Lesson closes with different ammo warning. I tell them if they change the rounds these available guns are set to the danger zone becomes scary on our smal ranch with the nearest neighbor just over 1000 feet away. I take a shot with a .410 Remington slug with a large gourd 50 yards away against a dirt bank. After my shot blows up the old dry gourd "any questions?"
