Ordered these from Altamont.

looking at them online I thought they'd be perfect. However, on the gun I really can't decide whether or not it's too much with the 2 tone. Thoughts?

I like them, but I can see how some people could be put off by them. I tend to like stuff a little unique.

Visually, it's a bit much going on for my taste, but I tend to like really simple clean looks.

That said, how do they feel?

I see those grips and I think of a custom billiard cue stick; don't know why, I just do.

Not exactly my kind of grips but they are unique looking and if you like them that's all that matters.

Not bad but a bit cluttered ....

The grips look nice but on a 2 tone 1911 pistol, it seems a bit cluttered.
The different colors & checkered panels are a lot to take in.

A solid black or maybe a polished blue steel shade 1911a1 model would bring out the distinctive grips w/o being too much.

Yeah that was the other thing I was thinking about the grips: they seemed a bit too busy, like there was too much going in a such a limited amount of grip space.

Olympus

Those are some fine looking grips as well!

I've come to the same consensus. Love the grips, but they're just too much.
I'm going to order some solid rosewood grips.

Olympus I love those grips, but checkering them I fear would completely obscure the wood's figure.

I have a STI Spartan in 9mm which will wear the 2 tone grips now. Should look great on that one.

oh well. it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Sometimes you don't know how something's going to look or fit until you actually try it out. A friend of mine is into target air rifles and I think he may be on his fifth or sixth different gun. A few haven't even worked right out the box while others have been so-so in terms of their functioning or accuracy. Still he keeps looking, hoping to find the right one.

I like the photo that was just posted. The original photo looks.... well, to me, "too much". When someone looks at that photo, what they see is the stocks, not the gun.

I needed to buy a pair of stocks for one 1911, so called the people at Herrettstocks (www.herrrettstocks.com). They made me a really nice set of custom stocks for a High Standard - so I went to them for a set for my 1911.

They did have exactly what I wanted - which compared to the photos up above is quite boring....

I wasn't concerned with the cost at that time, and was amazed that they were available for only $22. They arrived this morning, and five minutes after opening the package, I called them back to ask for a second set for my other 1911.

To someone who likes flash and fancy, the ones I got probably don't look very exciting.... but they feel great in my hands, infinitely better than the Pachmayr grips that came off. I could take a photo of them, but other than for the grain, they look just like what you see in the photo on their website.

(They have fancier stocks as well, but I prefer something plain.)
