i took my 6 year old son out yesterday shooting. he shot the heck out of my walther p22. over 150 rounds, he had a GREAT time! i also had him shoot my henry 22 lever rifle, but its a little on the heavy side for him. he still hit the target @ 75 yards, despite the weight, and the scope. he had a hard time with the scope also. after what i saw yesterday, it has me thinking that i may have to pick up a 22 rifle just for him. something more his size and weight, and without a scope. i will just let him keep using my pistol. i don't see any reason to buy him his own. he also did very well about not pointing the gun anywhere but down range. i let him handle my empty guns at home often, and preach safety all the time. he knows how to check all my guns to see if they are clear when i hand them to him. and he does a pretty good job about that also. he had such a good time, and i did also. i think i only shot 50 rounds, and most of that was from my 45 (testing some handloads), and a few from the rifle. he was very impressed when i made a tin can dance. he tried, and at one point, actually hit 3 in a row. sometimes, being a dad, is just plain fun!
