I'm a new shooter with revolvers. I've hunted all my life and use shotguns and rifles regularly. I've been looking for a revolver that I can hunt deer with. I've been eyeing the Heritage Rough Rider single action .45 long colt. I can't afford a high dollar gun, in fact I've been saving for the Rough Rider for about 6 months. Any thoughts from you pros about this revolver? I'm looking at the 7.5" barrel, blued version. What do you all think, keep saving or is this a good choice?

Thanks in advance for your advice/suggestions.

My opinion is to buy a used Ruber Blackahawk, and never look back.Theyare heads and shoulders above the rough riders.Again,my opinion...but then I do love my Blackhawks.Had one for over 30 years, its's till shooting just fine.

Maybe some others with acutal rough rider experience can tell their side.

and WELCOME to the forum

I have a BlackHawk....Love it.

it's big, it heavy. Not a carry gun.
Mines in .357 and at 45 yards it will hit a milk jug EVERY time.

You can not go wrong with a Blackhawk. 35 years ago I was in your shoes. I purchased a Blackhawk in 45 Colt. The little sixgun is beat up a little but has never let me down. It was used to kill my largest whitetail to date. Find a used one.........Creeker

quick check on-line and I see that the new Rough Rider is about the same price as a good used Blackhawk.

I'd have to second everyone else's opinion, if you've waited this long, wit a bit longer and look for a used Blackhawk, you can find them out there. I just found a nice one at a local gun shop. It's stainless, .44 magnum, and is $385 dollars. I just hope it doesn't sell before I get the money together.
