Hello friends and neighbors // It was a privileged weekend.

I was given permisson to step my, just turned 12 year old, niece up from Air soft and BB guns to a real .22 rifle.

She remembered the four rules, plus one of mine, and even hit the red a few times.
Here she is starting with a 1943, Remington, 513T (Redfields front and back, it should have a ramp front).

I also took the Marlin, 915YS, "Youth Model" ,much more her size, she preferred shooting it over the Remington but "could appreciate the history" of the 513T.
She is ready to try again.

We also shot a few bows and once she got comfortable ( my bows were long for her) there were four arrow in the target.

It was a day to remember for certain.

The smile on her face says it all. :)

The 513T is on my list of must have rifles as I have a 510P and 511P that want company. I hope to get the grandson out this summer and get him started.

Again, her smile defines the day out with you!

Yep, her smile makes me smile even bigger.
I sure your grandson will enjoy the experience. Especially the time spent one on one.

Funny you should mention the Rem. 510.
I have a first year, 1939, and compared it to the 513T.
Side by side, shot for shot, the 510 TargetMaster held it's own and it is hampered by a repaired stock, bulged barrel and the small blade front sight.

Looks like a great day was had by all. So, if you wanna continue to be the cool uncle, take her to an Appleseed. When all said and done will cost about $100 for the two of you and after two days she will be quite the shot.

A valuable education...

Good job! Thanks to your effort, you're educating another young person on proper and safe gun handling and responsibility. This education also teaches respect for firearms and does away with irrational fears. My oldest son (who is 18) and I both shoot regularly at a local gun shop/range. We will be taking my youngest son (14) along in the next week or two to introduce him to firearms. :)
