Please excuse me, as I am aware that these questions have been asked i'm sure. With time i'll get the hang of the site.

Traded my Baby Glock (G-26) (new, never fired) and 200 rounds of Blazer Brass 9mm ammo for a new P238 and 50 rounds of .380 ammo.

I am soooo happy with the trade. But a few questions please.

1st, looking through my ammo supply at home I came across some ammo a friend gave me but we cant remember the maker for anything. The bottom of the brass is stamped R-P 380 AUTO. IT looks to be like a few metal balls sealed in some type of gel inside like a hollow point.

2nd, I had carried my Glock 26 for a while. I allways carried hot. But I also allways used the Saftey Block on the trigger. My other carry is the kahr CW9. That too I carry hot but with a semi heavy trigger pull and a nice Galco IWH I allways felt very good about carrying loaded.

I have never owned a SA gun before. and now find myself hesitent to carry my new Sig loaded. Any tips from you old 1911 guys or other P238 people?

Your question is what ultimately led me to trade my P238 to another guy at a gun show for a Kahr PM40. I couldn't convince myself to carry the P238 cocked and locked.

I carry mine cocked & locked and feel comfortable about it, as the safty switch is pretty stiff and isn't going to flip off under normal body movements. Just get it in your head that "god forbid" you should ever need it, to turn the safty off. So it would be a good idea to practice doing just that. LM

I carry mine cocked and locked also. The safety is very positive and while accidents happen, I don't put my finger near the trigger until ready to fire (main safety).

1) Sounds like the bullets you described were Glasers.
2) Carry it cokced and locked....it ain't gonna go off unless you pull the trigger.

Go ahead and carry locked and cocked as long as you use a pocket holster that keeps the trigger covered and train yourself to no put your finger on the trigger until the barrel is pointed downrange.

I carry my 238 uncocked with one in the snout. If I draw it for any reason while I'm carrying, I cock it immedietely. It's easier for me to do that (and more intuitive) than flipping the safety off. However, the safety being as stiff and apparently reliable as it is, I would not fear to have it cocked and locked in my holster.

your not doing yourself any favors as that condition is far more dangerous than cocked and locked.

:(

Mr D!rty: are you referring to an accidental impact to the hammer causing unintended discharge?

Carrying it with one in the chamber AND hammer down is inviting disaster. The act of cocking it in an emergency is a very prone to AD. It is too easy to for the hammer to slip off one's finger during the cocking action in highly stressful situation.

Either carry it "cocked and locked" or no rounds in the chamber.

+1 for a good holster. Find a holster that is stiff leather and you'll be fine. Even somehow the safety became disengaged, something would have to get into the well protected trigger guard to cause it to fire. FWIW I had a local Amish guy make me an extremely stiff and tough pocket holster to carry my p238 in. Works great!

I carried my 238 around today cocked and locked and i'm pretty much convinced that it's safe with this little gun. I trust my larger pistols with the safety, but I had to convince myself that the smaller parts in this gun were reliable.

I carry mine cocked and locked. No second thoughts at all. Very positive little safety. Great sights, accurate and reliable little pistol.

Yes, the little p238 is a tremendously accurate pistol. Astonishingly so. I shocked myself yesterday with the results of shooting this pistol. It's easy to aim, point, and shoot. It has a very good trigger. Not 1911 quality, but still something to brag about which does not effect the aiming whatsoever.

I'm a convert. The 238 IS better than the PPK and it doesn't rub the skin off my hand.

I'm an old 1911 fan, so carrying cocked and locked is one reason I bought the gun.

BTW, I've got about 300 rounds through the gun now. The recoil spring has worn out, weak and misshapened. Today I called SIG to get three more recoil springs. The spring is $12, so if you have a chance you might get a spare.
I called Wolff gunsprings. They said they aren't making the recoil spring yet.
