I bought a new 18.5 inch barrel for my mossberg. The problem is that the bead sight is too low, with my ordinary check weld. To get the bead on target, I have to lower the barrel so far down that I can barely see the bead over the top of the receiver. (think the sun over the ocean 5 seconds before sunset).

Ideally I would like to add a simple set of open sights to the barrel itself. Or at least get a higher bead. How hard is it to do this? Does someone make a kit? Is it just a matter of soldering something on? Will soldering compromise the strength of the barrel? I don't really want to drill into the barrel or do anything else which would compromise it's integrity.

I don't want to add a rear sight to the receiver, since I like my mossberg just fine as it is with the 28 inch barrel for shooting clays and vermin.

Thanks.

Are you American Indian (Native American) by any chance? Presuming you are far enough forward on the stock (including that your arms arn't too short/the stock is too long), the stock may be too low because of your high cheek-bone. Or it just may be too low, period. Check Brownells for higher replacement beads? Or call Mossberg. They just screw in with a very little open-end wrench. You MAY have to put a shim on the stock to raise it instead, or glue a pad to it. Ask Mossberg about that too -- supposedly they have kits to change the "drop."
