Just wondering if you guys could help me out here. I need to replace the springs in my colt commander and my Kimber both are carry guns and i was wondering what the best poundage is for recoil and hammer springs, Im not using +p ammo just 230 grain .45acp. I had 181/2 pound recoil springs and was going to go back with this but wanted some advice first. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I run 16's in the Commander length guns and a 14 or a 16 in the 5" guns. I don't like, own, or provide anything but negative opinions on 1911 types shorter than a Commander.

For mainsprings I want at least a 19 in a carry gun, and like the 21 or a 23 in a Commander length gun. My Commander that I depend on has an ISMI 16 pound recoil spring, don't remember how many coils are clipped but just enough to prevent coil bind. It has an ISMI 19 pound mainspring and light hammer. If you have a stock hammer stick with the 21 and up mainsprings, those hammers are heavy enough that you need more spring on them.

Thank you for the info, I wasnt sure about what size hammer spring to use, i was told wolf springs are one of the best and are cheaper than Wilson's. I havent heard if ISMI

I replace my springs w/ Wolff springs.....either every 10,000 rounds or if I purchase a used gun ;) They make some good stuff!
As for my commander length 1911, I have gone w/ 20# recoil spring

I believe that ISMI springs are more consistent and last longer. I think you get a lot closer to a 16 when you order a 16 than you do with wolf. I know for a fact that the ISMI mag springs have lasted longer for me in my competition guns than Wolf, and by a LOT longer. Recoil springs typically won't show 'failure' like a magazine spring will, they just get a little softer each time out and do it slowly enough where it is REALLY hard to notice. Magazine springs on the other hand will work fine and just stop working fine in a pretty short period of time.

Last I was aware Wilson springs were Wolf with a little $ added for the Wilson packaging.
