Just in the process of getting a .45cal flinter( a TVM Iron Pennsylvania rifle), and I have some questions regarding powder: I currently have a lb of Swiss FF, but understand the FFF is recommended .45 rifles.

Is it dangerous to shoot the slower powder in the .45- e.g., create too much pressure, or does the FFF just give better accuracy?

Thanks for your help!

2F is fine. I have been using it forever in my .58. Take your time and enjoy the load development with it. Keep your powder dry:D .

2fg will do fine for the main charge, but you will need a finer grade of powder (3fg or 4fg ) for a reliable priming charge. If you have 3f available then it will work for both.

Generally 3F is used for .45 caliber and smaller. However, 2F works too (even for the pan). Remember, our powder is finer than what they produced way back when flintlocks were the only guns around.

I use 2f in all my flint locks, from .32 caliber and up. Barrel
and pan. I have 2f, 3f, and 4f powder. I just find it more
uniform to shoot 2f, shot to shot.

Be safe, enjoy

Thanks for the help! I picked up a pound of Goex FFFF priming powder yesterday; can't wait for the rain up this way to stop so I can take it out to play!
