Have you looked at the 1803 Rifle? It, I'm sure, was on the Lewis & Clark expedition along with their air rifle...
I did read the above. LOL I have an original -- boy those drunkards at Harper's Ferry were sloppy. The 1803 is usually considered the most beautiful truly American military gun ever made.
If you are truly going off the Rev. War reservation there is one choice -- the Hawken Rifle. Find a nice used T/C in .50.
