Hey Guys, just bought a Lee single stage press and have my brass cleaned and primed. Looking for some info (maybe some pics of manual data) on a load for 9mm with hodgdon universal powder, cci 550 primers (all I could find) and hornady 115 g fmj rn bullets
Any help appreciated
Thanks, Jason

Yea I bought the Lyman #49 but it doesn't have a listing for a 115 fmj with universal, and the ones it shows on hodgdon website are hollow point and lead cast

Universal Powder:
Hodgdon data:

115 Speer GDHP
4.5 Start --- 5.0 MAX.

Sierra 125 FMJ
4.3 Start --- 4.9 MAX.

Older Speer #13 manual data:
115 TMJ-RN
4.7 Start --- 5.3 MAX

A pattern is starting to develop here.

Start at 4.5, and work up to 5.0 or so.

Hollow point bullets are jacketed, so you can use any FMJ or HP data. Same with other types. You can use any data for the same weight and type (plated, cast, jacketed) of bullet you have.

Why did you buy magnum primers for 9mm? It's one of the most pressure sensitive loads to load for.

I'm not sure I'd shoot 9mm with magnum primers, at least drop the maximum load down by .3 gr and don't go under an OAL of less than 1.125".

Small magnum primers make little difference with relativly fast and easy to ignite powders. Titegroup, Red Dot, Bullseye, HP38 etc. I would also place Universal into that group. But since it is a little slower do stay away from maximum loads.
I did a test with .40 a while back and Bullseye powder with and without small magnum primers. There was no difference in max velocity and only a small difference on the lower side of the deviation. I even used small rifle primers when I was out of the others [gotta shoot!] No problems and no signs of pressure spikess.
Small magnum primers were designed to ignite large amounts or hard to ignite powders. .357mag with H110 for example.

Actually bought them not knowing they were mags, turns out that's all they had anyway and the store is 2 1/2 hours from home. I called back and asked about them, they said just start at the min charge.
