New to me, Charter Arms 44 Bulldog

I found a 95%+ blued Charter Arms Bulldog, with a 3" bbl, that locks up tight and has a sweet trigger and I got it for $179.
It is an older one without the full barrel lug.

I love the 44 Special and this is a good little Bulldog.
It's stoked with CCI 200gr Gold Dots.

Who else has a good Bulldog?
I know not all were that good, quality assurance was sometimes spotty.

The early (true) Charter arms Bulldogs were fine-- though utilitarian firearms--The later "Charco" versons are generally junk--

I have had several -- still have one as does a close friend of mine-- (Even shot well out to 100 yards with my son doing the sighting)

They held up well -- but not really for constant firing-- it is a light weight weapon designed to be carried much and shot little--

You will get bullet pull with certain loads-- (From recoil; the bullets will pull partially from the cases with heavier//hotter loads)

For defensive use -- Glasers are great and don't pull--

I did have pretty good luck with the silver-tips you are using as well--

Had one years ago. Test your ammo - mine would pull the bullets out of the cases on some factory loads and jam. I'd mark one round and fire several cylinders full with it riding along. Afterwards, check the OAL.

I do like those 200 grain Gold Dots too.

Just to be on the safe side, stay away from heavy bullet loadings. My Bulldog Pug was shot to scrap with a surprisingly small amount of PMC 240gr ammo, which sucked because it was such a cool little gun.

I will stick to those light Blazer Gold Dots, the hollowpoint is the size of a beer mug.

Had a 44 Bulldog many years ago- junk. Mainspring took set and gun would not go bang. Replaced spring and same thing after a number of rounds. Also cylinder fell forward and off gun when opened.

I'd say that's a pretty good sign that something's wrong with the gun.

I've had one for a couple of years. I don't fire it too much but it dearly loves Triton Hi-Vels. Problem is---I don't think Triton makes them any longer or at least the last time I visited their web site.

It's a nice gun. I've got the Bulldog Pug snubby in SS. 1989 vintage, bought it new. It shoots Silvertips and the CCI Blazers right to point of aim. Keep it loaded with Glasers which also shoot well. Blazers in the speedloader. For practice, I use a fairly light load of a 205 SWC hard cast over 5.5 grs. Unique. Very nice. The cylinder will slide forward on the spindle when you open it. No problem once you're aware of this idiosyncrasy. Light, accurate, easy to conceal, always goes bang. What'd I forget? Oh, it barks and bites, but that's the physics of a 21 oz. gun shooting 200 gr. bullets. Torquey too. Like I said, nice gun.
