congrats! i'm a fan of the SCAR. definitely has a place in any "collection" but after the new wears off, my bet is you'll find the AR is still better. kinda shocking, i know.

You’ll have to define better. I’ve owned several 308 ARs from different manufacturers. None of them measure up to the SCAR-17 as an all around rifle. My Falkor will outshoot it. My Aero will not. My Adam’s Arms was about the same as the SCAR in terms of accuracy, but was utterly unreliable when suppressed. My DPMS was hot garbage. My Rock River was reliable and was slightly more accurate than my SCAR, but it was a friggin boat anchor. Is the AR a better platform for some applications (one I can think of and that’s a DMR application)? Sure. But the SCAR is more versatile. One man’s opinion.

With the design of the SCAR its like the engineers went through the design of the AR with the goal of fixing every weakness and flaw of that system.
Gas fouling requiring frequent lubrication? Use a short stroke system that keeps fouling out of the action.
Not high enough bolt to BCG mass affecting reliability? Use a massive bolt carrier that weighs 10x as much as the bolt.
Bolt sheds lugs? Over design the bolt.
Weak extraction? Use a honking huge extractor.
Shot my first multigun match with the new SCAR-17 today. It's as I received it with the exception of a Knight's VFG. I wanted to shoot it iron sights and without a rail extension first to see how it does. Works fine! Expect slow movement and slow loading, but if you want to see some footage here you go.
