New to me Ruger SP101 .357

The SP101 is really pretty heavy for a snubbie .357, I don't believe factory .357 can hurt it, at least it never hurt mine. The Girl Friend carries one and shoots it with 125 grn hollow points and handles it just fine.

Well, I shot my SP101 yesterday and I liked it, but only after I readjusted my hold on the gun. After that, the groupings were sufficiently tight.

Just shooting .38 target loads, the recoil seemed greater (or at least no better) than my lighter weight Rossi M88, but the Rossi has larger rubber grips. I think that the Hogue grips will be a necessity, and definitely help me shoot better. Shooting .357's with the stock grips will not work for me, I don't think.

I'm happy with my purchase.

Yeah, as nice looking as the stock grips can be with good inserts, they are not conducive to a quick and stable draw or recovery from recoil.

I put Hogue Nylon grips on mine (basically feels like any other polymer frame grip--Glock, M&P, etc.) and they don't stick to clothes. Much better grip, allows all fingers on the grip, and better--longer--trigger reach

Congratulations Jim. I've got both the 2.5 and 3 inch models, and I couldn't be happier with them. Like all the Ruger revolvers they are rugged and relaible. Yours should serve you well !

I got an SP101 since a few years and prefer shooting it with Hogue grips, they distribute the recoil much better than the factory grips.

My youngest son is carrying the SP101 now and has just bought Badger boot grips for it, they conceal much easier.

I ordered the Hogue, but I opted for rubber instead of nylon, hoping that it might have the recoil absorbing edge. Maybe the nylon would've been better, but my Rossi has rubber, and I'm satisfied with that.

One of the reviews I read said that you couldn't use a speed loader with the Hogue, but when I called Hogue, they said that wasn't true - it was designed for use with a speedloader, but that some brands of speedloaders work better than others because of the size difference. We'll see.
