Last Friday afternoon I received a phone call at my office. It was from my local dealer. Needless to say, he had something interesting for me to see. (Yes, I have spent way too much money at his store in the last several years.) He says that one of the employees has an old Kit Gun that he would like to sell, and he knows I am interested. He also mentioned something about the serial number being low, but he had no specifics. He also mentioned that this one had not yet hit the store's inventory, so I had to deal directly with the employee.
Fast forward to Wednesday. My wife and I had to run by the dealer because my 10-inch Pac-Lite receiver on a Volquartsen/Ruger Mark II grip frame had arrived. We get there and I get handed a two-inch .22/32 Kit Gun built on the I-frame. The serial number is in the four digit range (48xx), and it is in decent condition with the original grips. There is a bit of surface rust on the side plate, but nothing too bad considering its age. The bore and chambers are immaculate, the case colors on the hammer and trigger not too faded, and the overall condition is better than I expected. Unfortunately there are no box and tools.
He asks if I want it, and I hem and haw. He says he wants $400 for it, and I say that is too high for the condition and the lack of box and tools. He comes down a bit, comes down a bit more, and I mentioned something about waiting until Friday to make a decision if it is okay with him. He says sure and puts it up. I go home to do a bit of research with my new Pac-Lite, enjoy my turkey and fixings, and decide that I can give the Kit Gun a new home.
Friday morning while everyone was shopping, my wife and I decided to send a few rounds downrange. I needed to wring out the Pac-Lite and my wife wanted to relax with her S&W M41. So back to the shop we went. After a relaxing brick or so, here is what came home with us.
