that coke bottle cap is bulletproof. groups look promising fire formed brass should really tighten the groups to. do you have a case gauge to compare the headspace and chamber to other 6.5G's

Lol, I was looking for a tape measure or ruler..... I found dat!

I don't have a case guage, never used one actually. I should probably get set they seem like good tools to have for referencing while loading.

Nice looking rifles and good shooting! It looks like the potential is there.

Please, please, please don't talk about CZ discontinuing the 527 line-up. I'm still disappointed the 550s aren't made any more. Oh, I know there are the Magnums, and some 550 Standards around in .308. (Which is a full-length action with a magazine block for the shorter round, for those unaware.) But I just barely snagged my 527FS after they were discontinued, and I've been eyeballing adding a Lux to go with it.

What did you think about the grendel AR compared to the bolt action? I've been thinking about building a grendel AR but I like shooting bolt actions when I try longer distances

Very cool! I've been thinking real hard about the Grendel. Almost ordered an AR upper but might have decided that if Ruger doesn't build one in the Ranch, I'll have to lop four inches of a Predator model.

I got a 597 early on and have to agree with some of the claims made in the beginning that it was a better rifle out of the box than the 10/22. Mine is an excellent shooter but hasn't seen the light of day in years. It just doesn't have the aftermarket support the Ruger does.

I think it really depends on your wants and usage. Accuracy from your average AR tends to rival any off the shelf bolt gun, they down sides are they are more cumbersome. Theoretically a bolt gun can run hotter loads more comfortably, but at least one of the members here whos opinion i trust was Leary of that when used in a "mini" action such as the 527 or howa mini.
When used in a full size action like the Ruger I don't see any reason not to run loads hot.
Personally I don't care for shooting ARs, and I wanted a the light, walking hunter, so the bolt gun made more sense for me.

For reference my heavy 24" barreled upper got 2700ish fps with 123s loaded long in a modded mag, shot very well, and was extremely comfortable. But it weighed something like 12lbs all set up with a 6-18x40 mark ar.
My ultralight 20" build got 2500ish with the same loads, and shot well but not fantastic, it weighed in at 8.5lbs scoped with a 1-4x20.

My 527 weights 7lbs 2oz. Beyond that don't know much lol. I'll report back after doing some loading and shooting.

You can get heavier variants of the cz and Howa but honestly were I going heavier I'd probably go AR or Ruger.

Personally I want the extra barrel length, which is partially why I went with the cz over the howa. I AM surprised tho that they don't offer a ranch in 6.5, I'd be your not the only one who wants one.

Satin clear coated the stock of the 597 yesterday, looks a lot better to me now.
Picked up some Aguila hi-V, shot 50rnds, and another , 20 or 30mini mags. Still only one failure using and I'm using my first generation metal magazine (17-18years or so old).

I couldn't find the coke cap in my truck so an orange cream cap got sacrificed.
1 rnd at 50yds after sighting.

Seems to toss a couple out of the group, usually the first ones, so I'm guessing the magazines messing with the bolt.
50yds group was under 1" besides to that we're about that far apart an off to the side another 1/2" or so.

Here's the 100yd group.

the ever elusive coke cap, groups look fine. my 597 really liked the rem yellow jackets. mini mags shoot good to. never put cheap stuff on paper. now i feel like getting my rossi 62 out.

I’m about to buy a 527 in 6.5 G for my daughter’s first deer rifle...well, mostly for my daughter. I’ve got a couple of 6.5 G AR-15s and I like them. I’m leaning towards the threaded barrel, so we...ahem...she can shoot it suppressed. Glad to see that yours shows some accuracy potential. Hard to believe CZ is even considering getting rid of the 527 action. Really wish I had picked up an FS before they were discontinued. Really want to find a 550 FS in 6.5x55.

So it appears this gun is a solid 1.5" shooter (or *cough* im a solid 1.5" shooter with this gun, which is very likely)

Went out monday for a while with a couple of boxes of hornady black, my buddy, and a pile of other toys. It of course rained and neither of us was smert enough to bring a pop up tent.
So to say conditions were not conducive to accurate shooting would be an understatement.

I also managed to get a short session in on the way home with some 28 and 28.5gr charges of 8208 behind 123SSTs, and again Im 90% sure this guns a better shooter than it seems. The thing dosent kick, but its light and slim and i havent figured out how to hold it yet. Best ive come up with is dont touch it and get my self as square as possible to shoulder catch the recoiling gun. Thats hard from the back of a truck, or off the ground....

anyway pictures!
sorry kinda sucky, and top one is 90* counterclockwise, bottom upside down....ill fix them eventually
3 "holes" are 5 shots from my 6.5CM, 10 holes are two full mags. First one was shot about 20mins before the second, im NOT positive i didnt move my sights as the Black ammo didnt hit the same spot as the 8208 loads, but lets just assume i didnt.
IMG_20190512_193151.jpg

The smaller group was 5 shots of 28.5gr 8208, the other was a 4 shot group of 28 # 5 was a dud, not positive why im GUESSING poorly seated primer. which throws the whole shebang out the window imo. I went ahead and loaded another round and fired it into the group but i had to get up to load the mag
Also those groups were shot on the right side of the target, both groups on the left looked like shotgun spatter, which leads me to believe Im not doing a good job except when i set up specifically on one target.
IMG_20190512_193227.jpg

as a note, loading the mag on this thing SUCKS. The rounds sharp shoulder is right where you need to push the next cartridge against.

my pictures are all mixed up now lol....anyway ill sort and fix...actually maybe ill just take new ones.

ya groups look fine, definitely can be improved on. with my cz i can wrap my hand around the forend good and hold it tight into my shoulder. tho my stock is slightly different then yours.

Last post for the 597!

I picked up a Bushy 3.5-10x36 rimfire scope for the rifle, and figured I'd s sight it and shoot some groups on the way home from work this AM.

I shot 10 round groups will all the .22 I currently have on hand, which isn't a lot lol. Accuracy with what I have on hand is very acceptable for a semi auto .22. Especially considering the shake I had this morning, and shooting out of the back of my truck..... Again.
Ran a pull thru, fired 5 rounds into the bulk group after sighting to lube the bore some, then fired a 10shot group. Did this for each ammo I had on hand.
Image_1558215312.jpg

I had a second malfunction today with the old Aquila sv ammo. A
failure to strip, and re-cock the hammer. All shots with the SV felt a little sluggish in cycling. HV had no issue.
I've only got something like 250-300rnds thru the gun so far, and it will probably lossen up a bit.

I'll get the 527 out tomorrow morning. I didn't shoot it as didn't remember to bring my bipod.

Shot another 40 rnds thru the 527 yesterday. Conditions were the exact opposite of the last trip. Sun was bright, ground was hot, and the wind was blowing.

I had to resight since I switched the Burris rings for shorter Warnes (I'll grab a total gun weight as I forgot to weigh the warne rings).

I had 20rnds Hornady black, 20rnds of 123sst over cfe223. I only shot a couple groups as I had made the mistake of sighting and playing with my .375 before sighting this gun.
I shot the rest of the ammo from field position, mostly standing, at random stuff on the berm. The gun feels more natural from looser field positions than it does off the bipod or a rest.

I was probably hitting within 6" standing, unsupported. I hit (or at least close enough to launch them into the air) a run of shotgun shells on my last magazine.

Sighters on the left, groups about 1.5"

Groups of both the handloads and factory, gun was hot enough that it wasn't comfortable to touch it. Dosent look like it's gonna string, it also looks like it puts most of my handloads and the Black pretty close to the same place.
IMG_20190520_100040.jpg

I'll make up. Another batch with 8208 and shoot both handloads again, I'm out of the factory fodder. I also have the stock off today to put down a couple coats of oil and open the barrel channel a bit more. It's pretty tight right at the front.

Oh if your curious about 4 round groups, well thats how many rounds are easy to get into the magazine.

FWIW, the factory target that came with my 527 had a 38mm 3-shot group. 38mm was CZ's measurement. They shot 123 gr. Hornady.

I'm not using the factory stock, but an unmodified, 100% machine-inlet Boyd's At-One. I shoot 90 gr. TNT with 30.5 gr. of H335. I have not done any load development. I just started 1 grain under max of Hodgdon's data. I found I cannot reach the lands within magazine length so I'm simply setting OAL to fit the magazine. So far, I get the same group size as CZ did. I'm sure it can be improved by bedding the stock and with load development, but I have not had the time for either. I expect to get it down to MOA or slightly under at 100 yards, but my main purpose is deer hunting within 200 yards and it's good enough as is. At some point before the deer season opens (in November here), I'll work up an accurate load with 100 gr TTSX.

To load the magazine, I use my left hand to push the cartridge in the top of the magazine down, then my right hand to slide the next cartridge in. It doesn't work well to push the top cartridge down with the incoming cartridge.
