Screw NATO, and go back to the .45 ACP or something new like the 5.7 20 round mag with the magic bullets.
I know these are total opposites, but I am so sick of NATO this and NATO that. Put this country back to work.
I am not at all sure what you mean by "put this country back to work." The point of NATO standardization is so that when we go to war with our NATO allies we can use the same logisitics. "Interoperability" is a big issue for the U.S. military even with non-NATO partner countries. I am not saying that we should always make decisions by international committee, but there are negative consequences to adopting something as fundemental as an ammunition standard that is not shared with our allies.

What is ++p ammo? I've never heard of it before. I'm familiar with +p & +p+, but not ++p. How does it differ from +p+?

yah, sorry, I'm not up on all the differences just that the 9mm has different ways to be configured and if you put a JHP with it, it's an effective round. As for it being a snappy round in a pistol causing muzzle flip, perhaps a ported barrel can help with that?, or go with a single stack grip? Perhaps offer two versions of the pistol, one for smaller hands?

The other thing about these polymer pistols is the ability to change the pistol grip configuration like on the Springfield Armory XDMs and whatnot.

The ammo is made domestically, under contract, from the DOD to NATO specs. Often by Federal or Winchester. So the country is at work producing ammo. That is also one of the requirements of the M9 and M4: both are made domestically in the US to keep the supply consistent so a riot in Italy won't effect Beretta production and so on.
