i bought a new xd9 last week.
ive only ever owned sa pistols.1911 and revolvers, a few auto 22's
the triger is good , never owned a plastic pistol but i like this one, it just feels good in the hand, like my colt 1911.
i bought it in 9mm for the ammo price, ive got 2 small boys and i well remember how many rounds my brother and i shot that my father happely supplied.
and you cant beat the lifetime warrenty.
it was down to the xd and the beretta 92 type m compact.
ive owned a springfield champion 1911 in 45 and loved it.
the warrenty and craftsmenship sold me on the xd.
hope it will be a good one. i know 2 boys who cant wate to get there hands on it.

Congrats on the new pistola!

I just bought an XD9 recently too, and it's one hell of a gun! For ammo, I get the Winchester value pack at Wal Mart - 100 rounds for $10.95. Can't beat that with a bat! The gun is VERY high quality for the price. It doesn't really have the feel of a "plastic gun". It feels very substantial! I'm still in the testing phase with mine, but so far it shoots great, looks great, and carries great! I think mine's a keeper.

I was at the range yesterday with a close friend of mine, who has been a Sig man for 20 years or so.
I brought my HS2000 along and he asked if he could try it. He said that except for the Glock-like trigger, it looked and felt a lot like one of his Sigs.
After 100 round he was quite impressed! he said the trigger took a little time to get used to, but it shot every bit as good as his gun.
He's looking to buy a XD next week. :)

Smitty,

Congratulations!

Very nice pistol, I bought a 4" XD-40 myself 2 days ago. I took it to the range yesterday for the first time and was extremely pleased. They are accurate pistols, I was surprised at how accurate they really are. My Browning HP has very little over this XD in terms of accuracy. I was shooting 1 7/8" to 3 1/4" groups and, "I" was the reason for the larger groups. The thing that impressed me most was not experiencing any wild shots or "fliers".

The XD, in a proper holster, is very concealable and not too heavy. The XD is very easy to field strip and clean, only 4 major components! The XD is also a "clean gun", it doesn't have controls everywhere hanging off of it. Being hammer free adds to this as well.

Safe, clean, light, dependable, rugged, and accurate with a 5-6 LB trigger, all in a pistol that feels great in the hand. That's a tough combination to beat.

I am sure your kids will enjoy shooting it with you! Remember, safety leads to more fun!
