This being Memorial Day weekend, let us not forget what the holiday is all about. This holiday honors our fallen heroes, and let us all take at least a moment to remember those who've fallen to allow us to live our lives in freedom.

We salute you, who've given your very lives, that we may continue with our own.

Annually, a firing squad of M1s salute those comrades who've gone before.

These fine men, these veterans, present their country's colors and fire a salute in fallen comrade's honor.

Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice.

Greater love hath no man, than to lay down his life for a friend.

We salute you from the Revolutionary War to the War on Terror. Thank you all who served and died for our freedom. "Freedom is not free."

God Bless all of these fallen heroes . . . from the War of the Revolution thru my Father's war, past mine and on to the present. True Americans & Warriors all. Thank you.

Thank You to all of the Veterans Past, Present, and Future, You are what makes America great

A table for one.

The table was set for one person, but no one was there. Fine linen, crystal glass, all present. Then I noticed a few things.

The white linen tablecloth was representative of the purity of their intentions when leaving our shores, for Duty, Honor and Country.

The wine glass was upside down. They will never drink the vintage of this earth again.

The slice of lemon stands for the bitterness of our sorrow and their loss.

The salt shaker is overturned, reminding us of their loved ones tears.

One chair. In vast armies and large wars, it is still one man who is missed by one wife, one father, one mother, one son, one daughter.

The candle was lit. Don't ever let the flame of memory fade.

This presentation can usually be done by your local VFW or Legion hall, with table set and oral presentation. If you've got a fair amount of veterants in your group, it will be appreciated. We all need time to remember those we lost. R.I.P., P.J.R.

Reverse the usual:

For Memorial Day: The oldest vet alive in your town speaks to the assembly:

Civilians, Tennnn-HUT! Renderrr, sa-LUTE! (30 sec. pause) TWO!

Civilian Firing Squad, Ready, Aim, FIRE Bla-la-la-la-la-la-lam!
FIRE Bla-la-la-la-la-la-lam!
FIRE Bla-la-la-la-la-la-lam!

Firing Squad Dis-MISS!

Civilians, Tears are not inappropriate! Do not forget those whom we honor today! Nor what they gave their lives to preserve!

Civilians, Dis-MISS!

For my generation, it was Vietnam. I did NOT go. At my stage of life, all I can do about that is regret it. I regret it more on Memorial Day than I do the other 364 1/4.

I'll be at the cemetery Monday, putting flags on the graves of friends.

God bless them all.

Taps

Day is done,
gone the sun,
From the hills,
from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.

Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep.
May the soldier
or sailor,
God keep.
On the land
or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night,
Must thou go,
When the day,
And the night
Need thee so?
All is well.
Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day,
And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well;
Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
'Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.
