I will give my kingdom for an explaination of the NYS AW ban... Im trying to get an AK shipped, but am really having a hard time with it... Ive purchased AWs and high caps IN nys before, but whats the deal with no one wanting to ship em here? Please tell me they dont have to be pre clinton :barf:...

You can thank Mayors Giuliani and Bloomberg and the lawsuits they've brought for that. No one wants to risk legal action and so they won't sell to NY residents or ship magazines, firearms, receivers or other items into the state or city.

As for grandfathering the NYS Assault Weapons ban is virtually identical to the Clinton gun ban except it doesn't expire. Any weapon listed as an assault weapon is illegal unless it was owned prior to the date listed in the law. Same goes for magazines that hold more than ten rounds.

I don't believe it had to be owed prior to 9/94, just manufactured prior to 9/94.

Goes for guns they classify as AWs and mags of over 10 round capacity.

i guess the FFL doesn't want to deal with 1994 baloney; so they just say no.

AKs are illegal in NYS.

No, they're not. AKs made after 1994 that have two or more "evil features" are illegal.

It's a mirror of the old federal ban. Apparently, nobody understands this because of incorrect information that keeps getting passed around the internet.

You can have AK if you had it before '94 or was in circulation before '94; if it is nos then it's post ban. Post bab passes muster with only 1 tactical (grenade launch, flash suppress etc.). You can have mags in excess of 10 rounds as long as they were made before '94.

law defining assault weapon:

any of the weapons, or functioning frames or receivers of such

as:

models);
(ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Ga
lil;
(iii) Beretta Ar70 (SC-70);
(iv) Colt AR-15;
(v) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC;
(vi) SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9, and M-12;
(vii) Steyr AUG;

very confusing

So, what is the status of any AR-15 bought in another state while you were are resident of another state and then you move into NYS to live?

if its got a flash suppressor and a bayonet lug its illegal. if your magazines were made after 1994, they are illegal.
